I Still Like Swinging On the Swing
I walked into work this morning... & slipped once or twice too, over patches of black ice on ground not gritted.
The sky was a clear inky blue. Each star looked like a little pin ***** in silk, the street lamps masking their true beauty.
I travelled along the winding roads & up the steep hill without seeing another living soul. The world was dead asleep & I was alone.
I came to the park brightly lit & inviting & so decided to walk through that way to glean the serenity it offered before another day began.
There shining in its primary coloured splendour was the new playground, empty & intriguing. I thought to just take a peek while I could, while no one was there. It would take but a minute.
There was a climbing frame with a rope bridge connected to a structure resembling a castle, & twisting tunnel slides, & all variety of things that children would enjoy.
I rounded a corner to find what I had really been looking for, the swings. I sat instantly, linked my arms around the chains & looked up into the heavens again. Then I began to rock back & forth just a little, & then a little more until my feet were off the ground & I was tipping myself this way & that to gain speed & height. I felt as though I were flying, whooshing through the air. Headed to the moon.
& I wasn't thinking of you, or him or them or her... or myself. Just nothingness.
Freedom. No chatter.
Peace & silence.
Then I jumped off, picked up my bag & continued on into work to attend the Wednesday morning meeting...
