Media Revolution Dream

I had this dream a while ago, but it was so strange and vivid, that it has stuck with me ever since. It started out with a group of people at my house. We were hanging out in a room that doesn't actually exist in my house and I didn't know any of the people personally, but they were more like friends of friends. We decide to hop in the car and head to a store. There are 5 adults and 3 kids in the car. We turn out of my neighborhood and are shocked by what we see. There are tanks coming down that road toward us and less than a mile ahead, the entire area is under attack. You can see smoke and fire, hear the tanks and gun shots, and it's a mess. We are more or less forced off the road by the tanks that are now turning into my neighborhood. We get out of the car and join a stream of people running away from the attack. I have an 8 or 9 year old boy that I grab from our car, even though I have no children in real life. We start running and I look back at some point to find my entire neighborhood has been demolished. I'm sad because my dad was in the house and I realize he's probably dead. Next, the boy and I keep running and suddenly, we are in Manhattan. There are military people behind us and I know we have to hide and soon. We are almost to the water when I find a building and a place for us to hide. I'm almost hidden when I get a text message from a friend of mine who has no idea what's going on. I'm so upset that she almost cost me my hiding spot/life, that I turn off the phone and throw it far away from me. As soon as we are hidden, I hear the military people enter the same building and say "The Media Revolution has begun". The room we are hiding in is filling up with top ranking officials and my hiding place is also getting filled with other people and I'm getting mad because they are going to find us with all the noise and shuffling. Of course, some officials do find us and try to force us out of 1 of 2 doors. The door to the right has snipers that are shooting any and all people that exit. The door to the left, which is closer to me anyway, leads to safety. I manage to get me and the boy out of the left door and we are in a park. There are orphaned children all around and when they see me, they ask if they can walk with me. I tell them it's okay to walk with me and we go off in search of a safe house. Eventually I find one, and we sit at the table. I'm telling the house owners how I have nothing... no phone, money, ID. The woman offers me her cell phone to make a call and I freak out. I tell her that I don't want to use the phone because if I call someone, and they don't answer it, then I will know that means they are dead. I start to cry and that's when I woke up.
