Spouse Doesn't Understand...

I have been suffering from onychophagia for as long as I can remember. I also bite the skin, cuticles, scabs around my fingernails. I bite my nails constantly. I will not respond to questions from people because I can't take my fingers out of my mouth. I will be late leaving the house because of it. I will pretty much do anything to just "fix" my nails if I see a hang nail or anything out of place. I've been to the ER twice for infected fingernails and had many other infections that I didn't need to go to the hospital for. This has been causing fights between my husband and I for our entire marriage. I do not know what to do. I've tried telling him that him saying "stop" isn't going to help. I can't just stop. It's not that simple. I seriously feel like I'm going to lose it every time he tells me to quit. It honestly makes me want to bite them more because it stresses me out! I just want to know if anyone else is dealing with a spouse or close relative telling them to stop, constantly. What do you do? Were you able to convince them to stop telling you to quit? I have even had a therapist tell my husband that's not productive to tell me but he just hates the sound and can't understand why I would do it to myself. Anyone else out there in the same boat as me??
