What Is Support?

people say that they 'support' the troops

but what does 'support' really mean?

yes, we 'support' them with our tax dollars

do i emotionally 'support' them? no, i don't know any active duty military at the moment

do i give a **** about them? not really

neither do you

if you did, you would have pressured your senators and congressmen to bring them home a few weeks after the Afghanistan and Iraq invasions

honestly, in this country, we don't give a **** about our soldiers

Those that refuse to study history are doomed to repeat it.
look up
Then get back to us on how well diplomacy works.

“But war, in a good cause, is not the greatest evil which a nation can suffer.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse. When a people are used as mere human instruments for firing cannon or thrusting bayonets, in the service and for the selfish purposes of a master, such war degrades a people. A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice – a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their free choice – is often the means of their regeneration. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other.”‘
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing’

oh please don't thank me i am being accused of being a racist mean spirited rich white guy all over the place tonight. i just deleted that comment cause i didn't want you to be guilty by association

I don't agree with this stupid war. All based on a lie. But, I do care about our troops. In fact, I care even more now that a special friend of mine is being deployed. I am going to worry about him and pray for his safe return and that means caring about the other soldiers as well. To keep each other safe and protected.
Those men and women over there aren't there because they want to be. It's their job. I'm sure they'd much rather be home, making love, watching TV, working 9 to 5. How can I not care about a fellow American?

You can't possibly give a **** about every single soul. Unless you embrace good and evil... Simply, there are bad people that do bad things that won't change. Do you care about them too? You shouldn't - they don't care about anyone.

Actually even before I knew any soldiers or ailors or airmen in Iraq and Afganistan I did support them. I did write and ask that they reconsider invading Iraq. And have continued to do so.
I also have always supported them, in a multitude of ways. From "care" packages, to letters, to just helping out at functions, all my life.
So, it would seem your statement is a little broad and general.

Could be worse, I suppose. I was talking with some friends I have in Germany. They said U.S. soldiers are treated far better than German soldiers. They wished that their soldiers had support (in whatever form it is given) that ours had.
Hm. You know those horrid country songs that people sing solely to get an emotional reaction? And how a lot of them are about soldiers? And how only the people that know someone in the military actually cry? Same idea I guess. I care about our soldiers but I think mainly because I have friends and cousins in the military. I think, also, this could be applied to anything. I care very, very deeply for firefighters - but my dad was one. I don't really care about cops. I don't know any cops. This was too long, I'm sorry.
