Why are we still being duped by the two party system?

It doesn't matter what their titles are. They all lead to the same ends. One sells us to international bankers while the other breeds a dependent class to leach what's left from us. It's the biggest ******* scam. End the madness, please!

Sorry to burst your bubble but since when was Colin Powell ever "conservative." He was a great general, but I never saw him as a "conservative."

    You said

"I will respect whichever candidate wins.."

Me too. After all, we are Americans before we are any political party.

I was moved by that description also. The Islamic Terrorist probably hurt the ordinary Muslim more than any other group. They did this by poisoning the mind of many of our citizens.

I was so moved by Powell's story of the Muslim woman mourning her son at Arlington Cemetery. This is very important to realize. We are a diverse and inclusive society. It is one of our greatest strengths and the key to our success. Historically the best and the brightest have come from all over the world to be here and become Americans. To turn our backs on that tradition now, and campaign by demonizing religion, would be a huge mistake.

I'm with you there 100%. I don't care whether call it conservative, moderate, liberal, center, right, leftist, or what. The question is is it a bold new step in a different direction, and does it work?

He's seen first hand what happens when a President's judgement is ruled by idealogy alone. We can no longer afford to smack labels on every consideration. Obama will bring an academic rigor and promote

intellectualism in the White House. Let's do what works best now, not just what we believe in.

You're right, and his views are, at least were, well respected by those on the far right.

Yes, firetech, That's what I meant. What difference does Powell's politcal leanings mean to his endorsement? He served under Republican Presidents.

Madison, I think she was asking what difference does it make if Powell is center/right or center/left. I don't think she was insinuating that you opinion had no value.

Also, I think the terms are so relative, it depends on the eye of beholder. Some would view his support of Roe v Wade as leftist, while I regard it as center. I regard reasonable gun laws as centrist, while others regard any gun law as leftist.

Friend, I guess we could get into an "is not/is too" circle discussion that will get neither of us anywhere. So I'll stop.

Enjoy Intrepid, wait til after he is elected, and then we will have a super EP party, but I'm afraid there is still a good chance he will not be elected.

That is not true. His party moved more to the right under him, making him look leftist. He is still a center/right person.

A stunning, well-timed and appropriate endorsement by General Powell. Having served 22 years in the military, I remember General Powell as a talented, trustworthy and perfect gentleman and I salute him for this endorsement. He has said it exactly as it is. I could feel his disappointment in the smear tactics employed by his own party. He is disappointed more by what the McCain campaign has not said and sad that Sen McCain has chosen to allow this circus within the party. I have felt Sen Obama to be the real deal and what you see is what you'll get. I have been sick over the lack of compassion or concern for middle class and working America. Change is coming and we will restore our image throughout the world. finally bring our troops home and begin taking care of our own. Tough times are ahead, but we can see a dim rainbow about to shine brightly over our great country and finally place it back on track. Obama/Biden '08

This is just a part of what Colin Powel said .

"He has both style and substance. I think he is a transformational figure," Powell said on NBC's Meet the Press.

"Obama displayed a steadiness. Showed intellectual vigor. He has a definitive way of doing business that will do us well," Powell said.

Powell said he questioned Sen. John McCain's judgment in picking Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate because he doesn't think she is ready to be president.

He also said he was disappointed with some of McCain's campaign tactics, such as bringing up Obama's ties to former 1960s radical Bill Ayers.....
