Hurray For Argentina!

July 15, 2010 Argentina Approves Gay Marriage By ALEXEI BARRIONUEVO

BUENOS AIRES — Argentina’s Senate narrowly approved a measure early on Thursday authorizing same-sex marriages, making Argentina the first country in Latin America to allow gay couples to wed.

After 15 hours of debate, the Senate voted 33 to 27 in favor of the measure, which was sponsored by the government of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. For weeks, she waged a bitter war of words with the Roman Catholic Church over the measure.

The church organized large protests throughout the country on Tuesday night involving tens of thousands of opponents of the law. Some senators criticized the Senate leadership on Wednesday for not allowing a vote on an alternative bill to authorize civil unions for gay couples.

The same-sex marriage measure will give gay people the same marital rights as heterosexuals, including adoption and inheritance rights.

Mexico City became the first jurisdiction in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriages last year. Two other countries in the region, Uruguay and Colombia, allow civil unions for same-sex couples.

Nice one, Troub! I like it!

By setting the example... as you said, not by proselytizing. But leading by our love and acceptance. The Episcopal Church is close to being thrown out of the Anglican Communion which is increasingly being dominated by conservative elements, particularly from Africa and Asia. So What! We have openly gay and lesbian priests and bishops and Kris and I will have our REAL wedding service in an Episcopal Church where the priest will perform the ceremony of Blessing Our Civil Marriage.

YES!

That is great news, Sara!! Hopefully Where Argentna led in Latin America, others will follow :)

I do, Troub, as you know, dispute your feeling that ALL religion is regressive. As a member of the Episcopal Church I am proud that my own church has LEAD THE WAY in ordaining first women, then gay and lesbian priests, and now gay and lesbian Bishops.

Yeah.. of course it also just decided that Ordaining Women is as much a crime as being a *********.... OHMYFREAKINGOD!!!! WHATTHEHELLISWRONGWITHTHOSEFUCKTARDS?????

And Argentina had to go against the whole freakin Catholic Church too!
