What's In a Name?

I have grown up with and around homosexuals my entire life.  During my early childhood, I didn't even know that there were objections to homosexuality.  I thought it was just one of those things you could become, like tall or intelligent.  To this day, I cannot understand the general hostility toward it.  I understand the religious opposition but even this does not explain intensity of the antagonism.  Jesus never even mentions it.  Let the disapproval rest in the churches.

I believe that the word "homosexual" is misleading.  It suggests that the only difference between "us" and "them" is of a sexual nature.  We need to come up with another word, a wod that focuses on the emotional aspect of the relationships, like "homoamorousness," or maybe something that doesn't sound so dorky.  I'm open to suggestions.

I would also like to step in here and say that I thank FITW for coming back with a calm, quiet statement.<br />
<br />
Of course I'm still trying to figure out how her spiritual beliefs have anything to do with who my life partner should be.<br />
<br />
Ah well.

Sorry for not answering your question, I'd forgotten I commented here...and yes, my belief on this issue does stem from my spiritual beliefs. It's not something I carry on about though...I'll state my opinion if asked (which in this case I wasn't, lol, so I probably shouldn't have even commented in the first place :S)...but otherwise I'm pretty quiet about it. <br />
<br />
(Sorry, btw, for jumping in on this, usually I try to avoid such things except on my own offense meant... :S)

homoamorousness does sound a little dorky LOL!! ;-)<br />
What about homoaffection? wait, that's dorky too...

You may be "just" expressing your views, but I thank you anyway. Your opinion counts, and you could have just kept it to yourself. As you know, there are some who feel quite the opposite of you on this issue... and I have heard from some of them. Ugh.

I know FITW has not answered the question you put to her, but I would also add two questions more to it...<br />
<br />
how is same-gender sex "wrong"?<br />
does your opposition include believing lesbianism to be "wrong"?<br />
<br />
JimmO... personally, I thank you for your story.

"I understand the religious opposition but even this does not explain intensity of the antagonism."<br />
<br />
I actually really like this sentence. Personally I'm one of those people who believes it's wrong (dare I admit it here?!) but heck, I ain't gonna go around shouting and screaming threats of hell, lol. Disagreeing with something somebody does isn't gonna keep me from liking them as a person...<br />
<br />
Please don't eat me! I'm not a crazy religious nut, really!

Whuttup, you make me smile every time, lol.<br />
<br />
I think we should just call them...people, or something to that effect. I completely agree with you, the hostility I've witnessed towards these people truly disgusts me. <br />
<br />
Good Story

You're all going to hell!!!!<br />
<br />

<br />
sorry, I just thought I'd beat the inevitable bible troll to the punch. <br />
<br />
Nice story.

I like the way you put this.. thanks for sharing

Well said. Unfortunately there will probably always be intolerance.
