If God Is Opposed To Gay Marriage, Then How Come They're Allowed To "marry" In A Church?

t seems backwards to me that there are churches and priests/pastors/etc that will grant marriage ceremonies to same-sex couples when one of the main arguments against legalizing same-sex marriage is that God doesn't like it. I mean, aren't churches supposed to better reflect God than the government? Even for those of you who believe that the USA is a Christian nation, it doesn't explain why so many Christian CHURCHES are ok with giving marriage ceremonies to gay couples.
I already have my ideas about why this argument is the way it is, against legal marriage (which is under the Government) instead of spiritual ceremonies (which are under God). But I'm not going into that: I'm trying to point out how useless that particular argument is. Whenever someone says to you, "It's an abomination to God," then you can say to them, "Then take your fight against Christian churches that marry gays."
The government does NOT reflect the Christian ideals of what God "wants". Even people who say that America was founded as a Christian nation can't honestly say that the government reflects Christianity in it's laws. Our nation reflects a myriad of different people, cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and religions; the government is there to support the human and civil rights of all these diverse people.
I ask again: Why is the fight against a marriage certificate that would change taxes, medical rights, and other CIVIL rights, instead of against churches that marry gays IN THE EYES OF GOD?
Come up with a better argument or take your fight elsewhere.

  | Posted Nov 5th, 2009 at 11:57AM i find that weird as well that churches don't condone gay rights and they are the first to fight for someone. that seems like a big double standard to me. are churches saying that we can accept every flaw except homosexuality. hmm...big double standard to me. some of the best poeple i know are gay. they are my close freinds and we have never messed around or thought about it for that matter. we respect each others space. i'm straight and proud but i don't care what my freinds do in their private time. its none of my business. i love women too much to be gay. that is the only reason i don't go for men. to each is own.   |
