My Best Friend Died From Lung Cancer At Age 22In June of 2009 my best friend Jill Costello was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. She was going into her senior year at UC Berkeley, had never smoked a day in her life, was the varsity coxswain of the Berkeley women's crew team and an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. After her diagnosis she paired with the Bonnie J Addario Lung Cancer Foundation to help them fight the fight against Lung Cancer. Previous to Jill's diagnosis, I like so many others, assumed that Lung Cancer was a smokers disease....and boy was I wrong!! I have come to find out that Lung Cancer is the most under funded cancer because of this smoking stigma that is associated with it, although many people that are diagnosed never smoked a day in their lives!! The current survival rate of Lung Cancer is 15%, the same as it was 30 years ago. That is ridiculous. For that reason I began working at the Bonnie J Addario Lung Cancer Foundation so that I can help reduce this stigma and change the face of Lung Cancer.
Right before Jill passed away in June of 2010 she told everyone around her that she wanted them to "Beat Lung Cancer!" and that is what I am going to do. So please join me in supporting a cure for lung cancer and visit lungcancerfoundation.org or contact me at email@example.com so that we can start raising the survival rate and start on the path to finding a cure. I lost my best friend to this horrible disease and I don't want anyone else to have to experience that; so lets fight this disease and find a cure!!
