Spent 6 Years In The Navy

I spent 6 years in the Navy. 1965 through 1971. Spent most of my time in San Diego, Calif. I believe everyone should do some time in the service of our country.  It makes a better person out of you.   I don't think people really realize the importance of our Service Men, our Troops. That's why I support them all the way.

I was 4 years in the Army as a Combat Engineer. Could not agree with your assessment concerning the personal growth aspect more. I was a punk *** worthless jerk before enlisting. By the time I graduated A.I.T. and went to my permanent duty station I was lean, healthy, strong as an Ox and proud not only of what I had accomplished in the past three months but damn proud to wear the uniform of a U.S. Servicemen. I recall seeing the pictures of the young faces behind those Marine uniforms when the Iraq war started, I felt guilty because I was not there with them, Brothers in Arms, that is another thing you get out of the service, an understanding of true loyalty and honor. Some of those things are definitely lacking in our society, no fault, no blame, just the way things are. How much stronger would our nation be if that were not the case?
