It's a Small World

I never thought HIV/AIDS would effect my life in any way.  I live in a small town, I work for a small company.

One day a friend at work came to me and said she needed to talk to someone, share something with someone she could trust.  She had just be told she was HIV positive.  She had been holding this information inside for a week.  She was in fear that people would be afraid of being near her or touching something she had touched.  Or maybe the company would find a reason to fire her.  She needed someone to just listen, not judge, or advise.

My heart goes out to her.  She did nothing wrong.  She is married with children.  She works very hard to pay bills and keep a home.  She already suffered from depression and low self esteem before.

I think it's important to remember that you cannot catch HIV from hugging someone, putting your hand on their shoulder, using their phone.  I think my life is richer for having her as my friend.

You are a true friend.... and that's what SHE needs also....

Its inspiring to hear that there are people in the world who don't judge someone just because they have HIV. Thank you for sharing your story.
