I'm An Effexor Xr Newbie...

I was on Citalopram for about a year, but found that it wasn't really having much of an effect. When I first started taking it, and each time my dosage was increased, I would feel an initial 'boost' for about six weeks, but would invariably end up back at square one after that.

Eventually the doc decided it might be useful to try something else - yeehaa. So she prescribed Doxepin... what a bloody disaster. Panic attacks, mood swings, and I'd wake up every morning feeling like I had a hangover (which would have been fine, if I'd done something to earn it!). I explained to said doctor in no uncertain terms that it definitely wasn't for me =)

Effexor is the next step... I started yesterday with 37.5mg, increasing my daily dose to 75mg after one week, and then going back to the doc for a review. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I take effexor and have been for several years, but now my dr wants to take me off of it. He says it increases the difficulty in achieving orgasem. I don't know. For a guy, that may be a good thing.

Wow I'm scared now. My doc didnt want to take me off my 10mg lexapro, but I insisted due to the weight gain that he switch me to effexor. I have a 75mg prescription waitng for me at the drugstore, but now am scared to start it. Waht advice do you have for me ?? Should I stick to the lexapro or switch. I can go 3 days off lexapro with no problems so maybe I shoulnt change.

Good luck dude. I've been on Effexor for years, and for me its been great, I'll probably be on it the rest of my life.
As you've probably heard, the worst thing is the withdrawals - they're a *****! Sometimes I can "feel" it in my skin if I'm even just 6 hours late.
All the best!
