Mom At 14

I was the goody good, until at 14 I became pregnant. Me and my boyfriend had been together a few months and we had no idea what to do. The whole pregnancy was nothing but arguing with our parents and trying to stick together the best we could, it was never easy but we got through it. Things were stressful; At 11 weeks I had some bleeding and saw my doctor he said it probably was nothing so we just kept hoping everything was okay.  There were people who wanted me to have an abortion, especially my own mom! At 28 weeks my water broke and I was horrified! I had no idea what to do, I was admitted into the hospital and there me and my boyfriend sat for 2 whole weeks, we had ultrasounds done, and we basically just waited. At 30w6d I went into labor 8 1/2 hours of gruesome labor, but I did it as planned; naturally. My son Evan was born June 22, 2008 at 4:11 am weighing 2lbs 14oz and 16 1/2 in long, he was tiny and beautiful.

Evan spent 6 weeks in the hospital. It was scary, we never knew what each day would bring. Evan had heart x-rays done, iv's put in, he was on oxygen and a feeding tube. But everyday he got better, time passed slowly but before long he was off of his feeding tube and  I was learning to bottle feed, and it was wonderful watching him grow and get stronger. After his 6 week stay he came home, only weighing 5lbs. Evan remained on his oxygen and feeding tube for a couple months  after his discharge but soon he was off of them, and he was learning to sit up, roll over, and crawl.

Now 21 months old evan is now my big man :) He's walking and talking and doing better than we could've imagined a year and a half ago. He has reached all of his milestones on time and watching him grow has been truly a pleasure. I love my little boy and I would never take any of it back.

Hi there. My name is Laura and I too am a teen mother. I am in school in Amsterdam currently and I am doing a research project on teen motherhood and how to diminish negative stereotypes about us. The survey is very quick and if you are American and a teen mother it would mean so much to me if you could complete it!<br />
