I Think I Am Goth Underneath It All
I was goth. Black boots to the knee, lots of black and red velvet, the whole nine yards. Then I moved to Texas. Things are different here. For one thing, it's too hot most of the year to wear all that. For another, this is the Bible belt, where they believe you have to look just like them to be a Christian. So I guess I sold out. I just got tired of having to explain it to people. I got tired of people telling me that there was something wrong with me. In Philly, I would get strange looks from people I don't know sometimes, but I can handle that. Here, it's even the people you know that want to judge. So now I wear jeans and tshirts. Bland, I know, but at least it's better than the preppy junk everyone down here seems so enamoured with. I still think the goth girl is hiding inside of me though. Maybe someday I'll let her out again.
