After calling me pro-infanticide and informing me that I teach my children that paedophilia is good, he blocked me for ad hominem arguments LOL.

For all the waste of time that was, it just proved the point of this experience group. Religion rots brains, and if he is teaching his children to think like this, he is destroying their minds. Child abuse indeed.

To put him in perspective, for all his Latin and big words (used inelegantly I might add...some people with large vocabularies do not realize that using them without artistry actually makes them look stupid, not smart), he is still one of those people who comes to your door to tell you all about Jehovah God and paradise on earth. It's hard to take those folks seriously.

But then a person who believes in tots with AK-47s, 500 year old women with fragile vaginas, and predictable randomness is hard to take seriously whatever sect is rotting their mind.

I used to love the Jehovah's when they came a'knockin with the obligatory child in tow. Two standard responses:

      1. Sure, come on in and let's chat about my Lord Satan.
      2. I'm doing some surgery in my basement, but it's not going too well. Do you know how to put duct tape on an artery?

Then they'd make some notation in their little weird notebooks and move on. At least it bought me a couple of years of peace.

My view there are disturbing passages in the bible, which are child abuse, however Christianity today isn't inherently child abuse, just like letting them believe in Santa isn't inherently abusive.

I do think the world would be better off without extremist religiousims ...

The basic priniciple is to help others, not harm others, and feed the poor when you can. Someone that is shivering in a cold winter and needs some soup and comfort doesn't need a Biblilist spewing guilt at them like someone trying to fatten them up like a goose being raised for foie gras, although the Sally Ann (Salvation Army) does a wonderful job of balancing a purpose vs. a spiritual and emotional need.

Was going to send you a PM on this. The Socrates of the pub took his toys and went home. Now I am the keeper of the keys to this thread. Maxiumus Goofumism, please be polite to me or I will take this toy away from you. Quid pro quo.

Naw, that's because you were always wrong and he was always right. My guess is that he's a frustrated British English vicar's boy. I asked him a simple question about where he was posting from and confessed that I was posting from Canada, and he couldn't even respond to that. But now I have the keys to the vault for anyone that wants to have a reasonable, non-obsessive debate out this issue.

      Well! *puts feet up*
So, saying indoctrinating kids into a religion is abusive, would you say it was emotionally abusive? mentally abusive?
...Is it possible to convey religion in a more openminded way, such that it would not be abusive? Or is it always abusive?

Everyone is free to think how they want and to live the life they choose or need. Abusive is getting beaten down because you "doesn't think they way that they does". The world is a wonderful pallette.

I do agree with you...But I'm inclined to go one step further; that kids ought to be specifically taught tolerance, that other people DO think differently, and that's okay.

Bingo. Absolutely brilliant observation. Please add your thoughts and make this thread as free thinking as I hope it will be. But, hey, I'm a Canuck, ey? The new leader of Ontario is gay and celebrated her ascention with her partner. Don't care about that stuff but she's in a losing position because of politics.
