I Don't Think He's Racist!

I heard words that came from an angry man's mouth, albeit some of the worst words that a person can refer to another. Mike Richards aka Kramer was very hostile and upset over the fact that some hecklers weren't paying attention to his stand-up routine. This comic was extremely frustrated from the lack of crowd participation, and the video doesn't show what the alleged hecklers called this comic before he went ballistic, and referred to them in some inappropriate terms.

I think that this guy was hurt by what the hecklers and crowd did or didn't do, and reacted with the best way for him to place his hurt and humiliation on them. He took it to a level where as to get the upper hand on his opposition in this situation. Also, the alleged hecklers referred to Kramer in some inappropriate language, but that was after Kramer called them ___ like 4 times or so. I think that this has definitely affected his career in a negative light, but I do think that he has done a good job of apologizing and he deserves a second chance. The question is will Kramer get that second chance? What I have learned in the court of public opinion is that it's very hypocritical.

In this country when another black person calls another black or latino a ____, we buy their cds in large amounts. Listen rappers say this all the time, but when another race says this, people get extremely fickle and uncomfortable. In my opinion, we should become more vocal and make our high moral sorted opinions more public, and say that the ____ word should not be justified for anyone to say it or write. In that vein, my principles need adjusting. I am a person who loves the amendments in this country, and stopping someone from saying this puts a black eye on the whole republic.

NO, Mr, Richards is NOT racist. He is no more a racist than, say, the black person who cslls me a honkey, or a white-bread. How many here, who have seen clips from Mr. Richards' "tyrade" have read his speach given when he appeared in court following his "tyrade"? Very few, I would say.
I fully agree with Mr. Richards in his response, in public court, to the charges of making racist remarks:

I have been wondering about why Whites are called racists, and no other race is.
Proud to be White
Michael Richards makes his point...

Michael Richards better known as Kramer from TVs Seinfeld does make a good point.

This was his defense speech in court after making racial comments in his comedy act.
He makes some very interesting points...

Someone finally said it... How many are actually paying attention to this?
There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc. And then there are just Americans. You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction.
You call me 'White boy,' 'Cracker,' 'Honkey,' 'Whitey,' 'Caveman,' or 'Peckerwood, ... and that's OK.
But when I call you, ******, Kike, Towel head, Sand-******, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink ... You call me a racist. You say that Whites commit a lot of violence against you.. so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?
You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Yom Hashoah.
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi. You have the NAACP. You have BET...
If we had WET (White Entertainment Television) we'd be racists.
If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists.
If we had White History Month, we'd be racists.
If we had any organization for only whites to 'advance' OUR lives we'd be racists.
We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce.
Wonder who pays for that??
A White woman could not be in the Miss Black American pageant, but any color can be in the Miss America pageant.
If we had a college fund that only gave White students scholarships...You know we'd be racists.
There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US...
Yet if there were 'White colleges' that would be a racist college.
In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights.
If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.
You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it.
But when we announce our White pride, you call us racists.
You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a White police officer shoots a Black gang member or beats up a Black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist...

I am proud...But you call me a racist.
Why is it that only Whites can be racists??
There is nothing improper about this...
Let's see which of you are proud enough to pass it on, or post it at your
workplace.
I sadly don't think many will. That's why we have lost most of OUR RIGHTS in this country. We won't stand up for ourselves!
It's not a crime yet, but getting real close!
I can be, and am, proud to be White, WITHOUT being a NAZI or a member of the Ku Klux Klan. Yes, I can be PROUD TO BE WHITE without being, in the least, racist.
******************************************************************************************
The following is my little addendum to Mr. Richards' court statement. If you can handle the truth, so be it. If not... too damn bad. It's how I feel.
What I find most amazing is the fact that the people who are most offended by the term “******” are white people who, if asked, couldn’t tell you the full definition of the term.
(In other words, under-educated white people.)
All they know is the “derogatory” meaning of the word.
I would say to them, before you tell me that I am wrong to be proud of the skin I was born with, and the accomplishments of my race, GROW THE **** UP and realize that if you were born with White skin, you can’t become Black simply by detesting your own race.
And, here’s a news flash for the people who, though White, say they “…stand beside the Black man in his struggle…”: If it ever came down to a race war, since you “…stand beside the Black man in his struggle…” you would be the FIRST White skinned person in their vicinity, so you would be their first target. Think about that for just a minute.

I AM NOT saying that I predict or want a race war. Nor am I saying that White people should hate everyone with a different colored skin. I am merely saying that I AM NOT WRONG TO BE PROUD THAT I AM WHITE, any more than “people of color” are wrong to be proud they are what they are.
making it illegal to say a word isn't going to solve any problems. the problem is not the word, it's what's behind it...and, i don't mean, just the technical definition of the word...i mean IGNORANCE, FEAR AND POWER. instead of taking the time and taxpayer's money to write and submit a new bill, why not prevent the media from portraying the black race the way they do? why not set up foster-commities...to FOSTER a better understanding of each race? my son grew up in an extremely integrated community and is now going to college with white kids who are intimidated by the mere sight of young black men...i mean, these kids have actually grown up not seeing black people in real life, or ever having to interact with a person "of color!!!!" everything in this country is backwards. but, the only way things will straighten out is if we start in our own backyards and neighborhoods!!

i agree - i feel that when people are angry they say the things that come to mind that will draw the most "blood" - calling someone a ******, a fatass, a ****** does not neccesarily mean that you are homophobic, hate fat people or are a racist - it just means you are pissed off and cant think straight - were the gentlemen that walked out while calling richards a whiteboy and a cracker racist - we dont know - the only thing that we do know is that they were pissed off - and they said what they could think of to hurt him back - my only problem with the whole incident is that richards can apolgize until he is blue- he can pay extortion money to the gentlemen that he offended - but in the black community it will never be enough - i feel like blacks CANNOT let this go because this is another step in the process of making sure that a WORD is made so offensive that when it is uttered it can take down ANYONE with the exception of the very people it is supposed to offend - i do feel that richards comments were wrong and that he should have apoligized for his words but lets not forget that they were just words - no less hurtful than mel gibsons or anyone who lets their anger get the best of them

I have heard that word come from many angry mouths, male and female. I have heard it come from the mouth of a policeman with a firehose in Selma, as he washed the streets clean of "N***ers". I've heard it come from the mouth of a coward, hiding his face behind a white sheet as he strung up a man who's only problem was that he had the wrong skin pigment in the wrong part of the country at the wrong time. I also heard that word coming from the mouths of those who stood, looking at the strange fruit hanging from that tree, mocking an innocent victim, even in death. The fact that we, as a society, can no longer hose 'them' down, or string 'them' up, that hatred and anger has not left us. Oh, no, not in the least. I've sat in a bar in Texas, surrounded by other whites as they laughed at images of suffering black faces in the midst of Katrina's flood waters, and heard them agree that it was the will of their 'god' that as many of these poor souls die as possible. I'm no longer welcome in that bar because I would not sit by and listen to that garbage and had to say something. But, that spirit is still there. So, how about you, 'fortunehooks'? We all have to get that word out of common useage, and the fact that anyone uses it today, no matter how freely, does not make it okay for us to use. The use of the word has continued because it IS protected by the 1st amendment. Not even I am in favor of making any speech illegal. All I advocate is to discourage the use of it throuth LEGAL means, i.e., my own use of the 1st amendment. The same law you love that lets you speak your mind, also lets me (and you, if you choose), speak out against the useage of that word. Whether 'kramer' (Michael Richards) deserves a second chance or not, is also a matter of free choice. I say no, you are just as free to say yes. It will fall to how many say 'no' as to whether or not his career is over. There is no 'black eye' on this republic unless we pass a law restricting speech. Yours is the first mention I've seen here.

Just another indication that this country is going to hell in a hand basket.
