Set Fire To The Rain

Hi, my name is livelaughlovedream3, and I'm an Adele addict. Her rich voice, confidence, poise, ability to craft such emotionally raw lyrics and unique melodies, especially at such a young age, is amazing to me. As a singer myself, although nowhere near her ability, her songs are great to cover. Skyfall is one of my favorite songs at the moment, but below I've posted the lyrics to one of her songs that resonate with me. An optimist by nature, I try not to dwell in negative thoughts and emotions. I think it's important to work through the feelings, process the hurt, and move on. Her songs are a cathartic release. I look forward to what she does next.

Set Fire to the Rain
by Adele

I let it fall, my heart,
And as it fell you rose to claim it
It was dark and I was over
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me

My hands, they're strong
But my knees were far too weak,
To stand in your arms
Without falling to your feet

But there's a side to you
That I never knew, never knew.
All the things you'd say
They were never true, never true,
And the games you play
You would always win, always win.

But I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!

When I lay with you
I could stay there
Close my eyes
Feel you here forever
You and me together
Nothing is better

'Cause there's a side to you
That I never knew, never knew,
All the things you'd say,
They were never true, never true,
And the games you'd play
You would always win, always win.

But I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!

I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
When it fell, something died
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time!

Sometimes I wake up by the door,
That heart you caught must be waiting for you
Even now when we're already over
I can't help myself from looking for you.

I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name

I set fire to the rain,
And I threw us into the flames
When it fell, something died
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time, ohhhh!

Oh noooo
Let it burn, oh
Let it burn
Let it burn

I love this song.. My daughter introduced me to Adele through the song Rolling in the Deep. She said "Dad, you have to hear this. It's a you song."

Adele is fantastic, and Rolling in the Deep is a great song. Glad you've joined the ranks of those who enjoy her music.

Its been decades since any popular singer moved me and made me weep, ands ride waves of anger and exhilaration of a song. Adele sings "we could have it all". Of course she does have it all.

She's an amazing vocalist and songwriter for sure. I look forward to more from her.

I love that song.

Me, too. Love the album!

How funny is it that when I read the lyrics I am singing them to myself in my head?

I do that all the time if I know the song.

I am quite familiar with this song and all of Adele's other works as well. I adore her, and agree with everything you've written about her. Plus I like the touh of retro or vintage if you will that her style has, it's very, very me.

Yes, I, too, love the retro / vintage feel. It's very me in my mind - I love the style, but it doesn't often come out in me. Used to swing dance in the 1990s in Hollywood at the Brown Derby and the Coconut Club. Was very vintage back then. :) Think my past life was as a USO girl in the 1940s.

I took some swing dancing and ball room classes with a group of friends just after high school - more towards the later end of the 90's and loved every single minute of it. I have absolutely no trouble picturing you as 1940's USO girl, who on the side dabbles in being a pin-up girl for fun! ;-)

Lol. Yes, would have definitely done that. Will actually be a pin-up girl next summer for a friend's retro calendar and hopefully, at the annual 1940s ball.

That is awesome! Am sure you'll suit it quite well :-)

Hope so. Should be fun. Did you like the swing and ballroom dancing? I love it but rarely do it anymore - lack of time and a partner.

I adored it, loves every minute of it, still love it. It was even better with the small group of friends that took it together. I too unfortunately rarely do it anymore. Said group of friends now live all over the country. I have time to do it, but am also lacking in a partner - my husband does not dance, at all ... *le sigh*.

Mine either, *sigh*. He begrudgingly obliges me at weddings or said 1940s ball, but I can't talk to him while we dance because he's counting. We took lessons together, and he's not a bad dancer per se, it's just not something he enjoys like I do. If I do go out dancing I usually dance with my friend, LeighAnn. She teaches ballroom, swing and lindy hop, so she leads, and I follow, lol.

My husband and I have worked out an agreement regarding dancing and weddings. We stay for all the first dances, etc. and then he has to dance a total of 3 dances with me, I am free to dance as many others as I like. Once he fulfills his obligation, we politely take our leave (unless of course it is an extreamly good friends wedding) and go do something else together. It was a result of a few years of extreme frustration and discontent on both of our parts regarding the others desires in the dancing department, which always put a shadow on what should be a festive occasion.

Seriously. I think we were sisters in an alternate universe. You're really scaring me, lol.

*giggles* it is more then a little spooky! :-)

Wish I had your wit and adoration. Guess I'll have to settle with being a queen, lol.

I could never be queen, don't have the necessary discipline within me, so I will happily leave that role to you my beautiful queen, and will quite happily remain seated at your feet, gazing in adoration at your beauty.

Love you, dear one. Lol. Thanks for cheering me up. This lack of sleep and messed up hormones from new medicines have me in a mood and not the good kind (although that one is always lurking). Needed the smile and conversation this morning, so thank you, most favored subject. :)

Your welcome, anytime. The pleasure was all mine. And believe me, I more than understand.

Thanks.
