To Whom It May Concern

I love "The Civil Wars".

They sort of personify my tastes in music, a quirky girl and rugged guy. Singer-song writers, independent, not at all "well-known", folksy, sorta country, very mellow.

They're very me.

I've had their album "Barton Hollow" for awhile but had been distracted by more recent musical discoveries until the show Nashville (still haven't made up my mind about it) reminded me of them, when they re-did their song "If I Didn't Know Better" (which I shared on here before). So I put them back into regular rotation on my iTunes.

Having been on EP for a little while now, I've met a lot of really amazing people and have become very close friends with a few people (you know who you are). I've quickly learned that we all have histories, we all have our own special pains and our own demons that haunt us. It's what drew many of us to EP in the first place. However, having been drawn here for mutual reasons our journeys often then diverge and take very separate paths.

For some EP becomes a place to "hang out", to have fun and be silly and irreverent, to play so to speak. A place in which they can waste time, and distract themselves from more serious matters. They tend to be drawn to the Q&A's.

For some it becomes a place to bare their souls. a place where they can share their innermost thoughts and desires and fears anonymously, without judgment ... or with judgment but who the hell cares because no one knows you you really are - right?! They tend to gravitate towards the "Confessions" section.

For others it becomes about writing, about re-discovering, or perhaps discovering for the first time, that spark of creativity that lies dormant within their "little grey cells". They weave spells with their words, carefully crafting tales that draw us in, that speak to us, amuse us, make us want, crave even, more. They find their joy and fulfillment lies within the "Stories" part of EP.

Of course there are some for whom it's all about the "sex", both mainstream and alternative ... But having avoided those parts myself, having stayed "on the sidewalk and in the light provided by street lamps" I'm hardly qualified to comment on them. ;-)

Last, but certainly not least, are those group of people for which EP becomes about the people. They form connections with others, talking to them through messages, having "conversations" about everything and anything, flirting, laughing, crying, sharing. Sometimes ... Sometimes they even make a very real, much deeper, maybe even romantic connection. A spark grows into something more and an indelible impression is made upon them.

Unfortunately, for by far the majority of them, EP is all they will ever be able to have. It is those people, those fortunate and at the same time un-fortunate few that this particular song reminds me of.

To Whom It May Concern
By: The Civil Wars

Why are you so far from me?
In my arms is where you ought to be
How long will you make me wait?
I don't know how much more I can take
I missed you
But I haven't met you
Oh but I want to
How I do
Slowly counting down the days
Till I finally know your name
Ooo the way your hand feels round my waist
The way you laugh
The way your kisses taste
I missed you
But I haven't met you
Oh but I want to
How I do, How I do
I've missed you
But I haven't met you
Oh I missed you
I haven't met you
Oh but I want to
Oh how I want to
Dear whoever you might be
I'm still waiting patiently.

P.S. - There are also obviously those certain few, for whom EP is all of the above ... I am one of those people. Excluding the sex part, obviously, lol.

P.P.S - They don't have an "official" music video for the song, but I found this cute one to share, and it had a good quality version of the song. Love the Post-It notes in it (I have a ... "thing" ... for stationary) but a little freaked out by the eye close up, haha.

Your observations of the people on EP are very noted, miss.

And those lyrics... yeah, if I would've known at least six months ago about that song...
Actually it wouldn't have mattered. ::Sigh:: The feeling is still there. It always will.

Hmm ... "Very noted" ... Does that indicate and agreement or disagreement?

Those lyrics ... "Yeah" indeed!

*hugs*

Agreement. It is right on! I don't know if the 'tro... well, you know who I'm talking about. Those folks that make Life a little bit more annoying for others if they pay attention to them? They are here on EP as well... F***ers.

But.. yeah. ::Hugs::

*laughing*

Thank you for the clarification. As for the "tro...", I do know, and intentionally left them out as I didn't want to add fuel to their fires. However, they are most certainly alive and kicking here on EP.

EP is nothing but a collection of people, and this is an excellent summation of what makes them, and therefore EP, so fascinating.

And thank you for the song and the lyrics. They are beautiful.

Thank you for your kind comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the song and lyrics. I agree, they are very beautiful. :-)

I am finding out that you are a talented writer. I am new to ep but you have really hit the nail on its head regarding its participants. I enjoyed reading this and the lyrics.

*blushes*

Thank you ever so much for the compliments on my writing abilities. I just write down what I am thinking or feeling. I prefer to call myself a good "storyteller", as a friend termed me awhile ago.

I'm glad you enjoyed reading it and the lyrics. Give the song a listen, it's great.

Thanks for commenting! :-)
