I Think Lyrics Can Say It Better Than Words
I read the other day that when you're happy, you enjoy the music, but when you're sad, you understand the lyrics. I'm typically a happy person, but when friends are hurting, I feel that along with them. I take it on for them and want to help - surround them with love, understanding, compassion and a long, heartfelt hug.
I was driving in my car yesterday, and this song came on my iPod. I'd never really listened to the lyrics before. I sometimes skip over slow songs when I'm driving because I need upbeat music to keep me awake.
However, I was glad I listened to the song and the lyrics this time. For friends who are saying goodbye to old friends and loved ones, friends who are grieving and for those of us remembering lost loves, friends and family members, I find these lyrics sad yet comforting, compassionate, loving and gentle.
Now Comes the Night
by Rob Thomas
When the hour is upon us
And our beauty surely gone
No you will not be forgotten
And you will not be alone
No you will not be alone
And when the day has all but ended
And our echo starts to fade
No you will not be alone then
And you will not be afraid
No you will not be afraid
When the fog has finally lifted
From my cold and tired brow
No I will not leave you crying
No I will not let you down
No I will not let you down
I will not let you down
Now comes the night
Feel it fading away
And the soul underneath
Is it all that remains
So just slide over here
Leave your fear in the fray
Let us hold to each other
'Til the end of our days
When the hour is upon us
And our beauty surely gone
No you will not be forgotten
And you will not be alone
No you will not be alone
