Because Sometimes A New Friend Reminds You Of Something

Hello everyone!

As a few of you know the last few weeks have been a roller coaster ride of sorts for me, but it seems the ride is coming to an end and the peaks and valleys have begun to level out. Today, today in particular, has been a really wonderful day. In fact, I've been having the most enjoyable day I've had in quite sometime.

My day has been filled with fun, and funny, and insightful and irreverently intelligent conversations with friends, both old and new. One of those friends, a rather new and charming acquaintance, and I have been having a conversation that spanned a few different topics. The most recent part of which included old movies, in particular westerns and the country life. They "spoke" of a desire to live in the country and learn old fashioned skills,  learn how to live off the land so to speak. Live the type of life where you have to work hard, and deal with the un-expected everyday and how we seem to have lost an appreciation for those things that were once essential, how we take that which we now have forgranted . I can understand that. I agree with it even.

I grew up as a small town, country girl on a farm and as most of you who I've come to call my friends know, I tend to be a bit "old-fashioned" in my tastes and tendencies. I believe in being feminine and dressing up when you go out. I think men should be charming and genuine, true gentlemen if you will, who treat women with respect and kindness. I consider knowing how to cook a proper meal and bake a loaf of bread to be skills that everyone should cultivate. I esteem those people who bother to remember their manners and be kind to strangers.

I could go on, but this post is not about all of that. What it is about is a song. Our conversation reminded me of a song I like and had forgotten about. The song reminds me of the country and old fashioned things (it makes sense to me, the connection is there in my brain, stop fighting it, just go with it :-P).  So thank you dear friend for sparking that memory within my neurones. I share it with all of you now andI hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Cups (You're Gonna Miss Me)
By: Lulu and the Lampshades

I've got my ticket for long way 'round
Two bottles of whisky for the way
And I sure would like some sweet company
Oh, I'm leaving tomorrow, what do you say?

When I'm gone, When I'm gone
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

You're gonna miss me by my hair
You're gonna miss me everywhere, oh
you're gonna miss me when I'm gone

(*4 CUP)

I've got my ticket for the long way 'round
The one with the prettiest view

It's got mountains
it's got rivers
It's got woods to give you shivers
But it sure would be prettier with you

When I'm gone, When I'm gone
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

You're gonna miss me by my walk
You'll miss me by my talk,
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

I got my ticket for the long way 'round
These feet weren't build to stay too long
And, I got out on my own
But, you'll miss me when you're home

It's for you that I just sang this song
When I'm gone, When I'm gone
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my hair
You're gonna miss me everywhere
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

When I'm gone, When I'm gone
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my walk
You'll miss me by my talk, oh

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone.

Tis always nice to make a new friend.

Indeed it is. Though spending time with cherished older ones is just as lovely.

I'm not THAT old. :-)

I meant old as in have known for longer. Silly man. :-P

I agree with so much of this post as you well know, especially your third paragraph even though I didn't grow up in a small town, and my everyday cooking skills are lacking (although I'm really good with meals for elegant dinner parties and holiday feasts).

The song reminded me so much of a drinking game we played in college. I checked out the YouTube video in the comment to Lysander below, and yep, that's the cup game we played. I was quite good at it, and my friends were often much more drunk than me by the end of the night. It's fun to play and make music from the cups like that.

Thanks for the post. I really enjoyed the song, and it would be fun to sing. I've had a great day today, too, thanks to old and new friends. :)

I've been walking around singing it all day. Will have to work on the cup part, then we can do it together on one of our adventures!

Thanks for reading and commenting. And thank you too for being part of my great day.

That would be quite fun! We could sing the song once we have the cup part down - picturing that is making me laugh.

Thank you, too, for being part of my happiness last night and today. :) xox

It's making me giggle too, we'd have to record it and share it with a few select friends. Before we start drinking, obviously, haha.

You're welcome!

We should do a few takes - before and after we start drinking, lol. Maybe Lysander will want to direct. ;)

You're just full of such awesome idea's today!

Why thank yeh, little lady. (How's my country talk?)

I almost spit out my tea when I read that! Now I can't stop giggling. Thanks.

As long as we don't hear banjos, I think we're in the clear. Otherwise, my advice is to run or paddle faster! ;)

I heard my name and drinking. What's the game? Where we going? Whose buyin' and then getting taped up to a tree for just being there?

Oh.. Directing as well? I'll have to get my tools and my team on stand by.

Taped to a tree? What kind of drinking game is that? I like bonfires in the forest, but taped to a tree sounds a bit ritualistic, not that there's anything wrong with that depending on the ritual to be performed...

Yes, I think you should get your tools and team on standby as long as H agrees.

L3D3: Good advice! *laughing*

Lysander: Just making some plans for future impish sprightliness by the "Horny Lil Angels". Though I do believe that was a subtle invitation issued to you. The first one to ever be issued to someone else to join in our mischief making. Just sayin'

Oh, I do agree my Queen, completely!

Wait, joining in our mischief making? Hmmm...don't know if he's been initiated yet. I thought he could be the documentary filmmaker observing events as we carry on forgetting there's a camera in the room. But no cameras behind closed doors or in the bathroom. Just sayin'. :)

Well being a documentary filmmaker is sort of like joining in. Also, given it's the two of us, given our love of body shots, and given that he's so cute .... let's be honest here. How long would he be an impartial observer for?

Though I do agree, no cameras behind closed doors or bathrooms. Other then the secret web cam that's been installed to film the massage ... I already have Starem members lining up for that footage!

*laughing out loud, and yes, just snorted*

I have no words because everything you wrote is just so true. How could I possibly argue with such sound logic? (Except maybe the Starem members lining up for footage.)

Okay, okay ... sorry Starem members, the viewing of our Queens massage has been called off due to threat of excommunication.

Other than that though, it is pretty infallible logic!

*pats self on back for being so S-M-R-T*

Oh, I didn't mean they couldn't line up for footage. I just doubted there was said line at all, but your queen humbly thanks you for the compliment. :)

Yes, you are very S-M-R-T. *pats you on the back*

Did you hear that boys? It's back on! And the Queendom rejoices once more!

Lol - you are just too funny! :D

A girl tries, sometimes she succeeds .

You succeed often, most favored subject. Now, I just need to find my body double. :)

Shall we hold auditions?

We could, but pictures would suffice I think as long as they're not airbrushed. Maybe we narrow it down to the top five then hold auditions. :)

Sounds like a plan to me! While we're at it maybe we should also hold auditions for new starem members ...

Whoa, if we're going to do this process, we have to do it right!

If you'll pardon my intrusion, but we have to be civil about these things. We can't just hold off a pageant and rate and judge these women who would want and deserve to partake in these activities. There has to be Law to govern this event. A set of rules and regulations...

Then again, if I'm included and I can get in on the action, F*** the rules. They're meant to be broken, like that dude said... you know, the one who always wears a shirt.

I would very much like to audition new starem members. Care to help with that? Since Lysander seems to speak Spanish and at least one word in Hungarian; you're fluent in French; I know some French, some German and am learning Italian, I think we can make it an international call. Equal opportunity and all that...

I would love to help my Queen out in her quest to find new and suitable members for her Starem, while of course not forgetting the need to find a body double (and some eye candy for Lysander).

International and equal opportunity indeed. We are a well rounded bunch aren't we? Also, don't forget Cantonese and Mandarin ... I know enough to convey what we need to.

Very nice. Well-rounded indeed, as should my body double be.

*starts writing the advertisement*

Petite, beautiful, well-rounded in all the right places, with soft, liquid brown eyes and gently curling hair ...

Anything else?

Aw, look how sweet you are. I <3 you.

Don't forget brunette. And she shouldn't be prettier than us since we're the stars. My face, her body. :)

Yes, of course, brunette ... how could I ever forget. No blondes allowed! lol.

Definitely no blondes unless Lysander wants them for eye candy, but we get final approval.

*looks around for Lysander*

Where the heck did that man go? Must be sleeping ... poor guy was off protecting your country all night. Guess we'll have to wait until later to ask him: Blondes or Brunettes?

My country appreciates his service as do I. There really is only one right answer to that question.

Absolutely, agreed. To both statements.

Sometimes I wish I had longer hair. Just so it's easier for me to leave my mark at certain places. Plus... I'd look crazy good with longer hair.

...anywho, yeah, I can dig it. This song can be applied in just a certain situation of mine. But hey, I'm having way too fun with the clapping and that foot stomping (At least it sounds like that) in the song.

*laughing again trying to picture you with long hair*

Anyhoo, lol, no ... not foot stomping. Cups. Thus the name of the song, lol. Check out this video:

Ah! Got it! The one on the left with the short black hair... sizzling. Yeow. ::Growls::

And I did have long hair in a wig but I looked like an extra in a Heavy Metal band. I'll wait until I can get a better wig and then post it up. I'll need some very observational folks to take note once that is done :)

Such a cute growl you have there!
