I Think Many People Are Being Racist To Muslims

Many people are mean and racist toward Muslims. Many who come to the US have education and skills that contribute to society and provide good livings for them and their families.

Most Americans never travel outside of the country. Fewer still ever visit the middle east. They are ignorant of most other cultures and many of those seem to be proud of it.

Why be a-holes to people who wear garb, speak other languages and may have darker skin? They only want to make a living and honor their God. They won't hurt you and won't try to convert you. Many will be happy to discuss Islam and you are free to agree to disagree. There may be parts of their faith that you agree with. Who knows?

There are elements in the press that have issues with Muslims. A few generations ago they had problems with Catholics and Jews too.

    The sort of reactionary nonsense you speak of is something which irks me too.

    As you say, it used to be Catholics and Jews ... now it's Muslims ... who's next?

      Who is next? Some fear Pagans. They fear an alliance between Pagans and their devil. They blame everything bad on that "secret alliance. "

    Ignorance can be a sad thing. Too many people listen to hear say from others rather than researching and learning for themselves. Either that or allow the media to shape their opinions. I made arrangement a few years ago and took my kids to a local Mosque to learn about their faith. The man that took us on the tour was extremely nice even knowing that we were just there to learn and not become a part of his faith. It's not for me, but there are a lot of really beautiful and peaceful aspects to the Muslim faith.

    I believe they are. A lot of them stayed in my country for education, Medical courses lower school/university fees, cheaper lodgings and so on, in exchange for work. And I've never met one who is rude. Mostly they mind their own business, and always stay indoors. Most I met were friendly and funny.
    But I would never enter their country, things seems to be different when you're within their premise.

      I understand why many go to school in your country. Visa requirements are different plus many college courses are taught with US textbooks and US trained professors. I've been to a few Muslim countries. I've always felt safer there than in the US. That was during the 1980s though.
