An Great Show With An Interesting Parallel

Stargate SG-1 was suggested to me by a good friend who has been there for me since I have left the Mormon Church (that's another story / experience).

So I went out and purchased the movie and the entire series, all ten seasons. Started watching it and found that the more I watched, the more I enjoyed it, but what gets me is the similarities I see between he show and my own life. I'm not crazy or believe that the Goa'uld truly exsist but I just can't help myself to draw the parallels.

In many ways the Goa'uld were a powerful influence on mankind. Because of them civilizations were created, great temples and buildings were constructed and a way of life was instilled onto a primitive people. The Goa'uld insured their dominance over mankind by presenting themselves as gods. Later, mankind discovered the Goa'uld to be false gods are rebelled against them, driving them off earth.

As an ex-mormon I just can't help see the similarities between the Goa'uld and the Mormon organization with their ideas of false beliefs, false gods and how they maintain control over people through lies and deception.

Of course this way of looking at the show for me is because of my own personal history, and in no way does it mean anything other than I find the similarities interesting. I enjoy the show for what it is, a great character-based show with a multi-facetted story and characters that are quickly developing with their own personalities, ideas and even dreams.

I highly recommand this show to anyone and everyone, be them intersted in Sci-Fi or not.
