Taking Both On Vacation

I am going on vacation next week with a friend. We are both taking our children, one each, and they are so different. I enjoy chatting with my son, he has been out of town for a week, I look forward to spending quality time with him next week.  He is an enjoyable child, I love spending time with him. My friend wants to make sure her child is worn out so she will sleep in the car and not annoy her. She is bringing electronic games, portable DVD, all that stuff. She asked what I was going to do for my kid. I said nothing. He just needs a book and he will be fine. She was astonished, so was I frankly. We need no bells and whistles. I am planning on taking a few books, my MP3, flip flops, a big hat and plopping my tail down on the sand. What more do I need? Well a little food maybe . . .

It's so funny that parents think they need more. I am taking some crafty things to do with her daughter, I don't think she's ever done anything like that. We are staying in a cabin in the woods, my son will grab a walking stick and be gone wandering the woods in a flash, and he will be happy : ) I hope I have taught him to be creative and happy with the simple things in life.

We are of kindred spirits! I have read books to escape since I can remember, in fact, I keep an "emergency book" (Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad) in my car. Just in case I should break down & need to await for aid to arrive.
