I Think Valentine's Day Is Over Rated
I never had a Valentines Day. Every year on this day I'm either single or had some king of argument with my boyfriend (if I had one) but somehow I'm not bothered at all. The only thing I don't like is all this artificial pressure it puts on people - that if you are alone then there is something wrong with you.
When I was looking for a group to join to write this story I found three rather depressing groups "I hate Valentines Day", "I Think Valentines Day Is Depressing" and "I think Valentines Day Is The Sadist Holiday When You Are Alone". I don't really understand people who think like this. Its just another day!
I majorly suck in relationships and I often feel sad and lonely because I don't have a special someone but if Im feeling down and lonely it can be on any day. Im sure its the same for all people and yet no one says something like "Oh my its Wednesday...Wednesday is so depressing if you are alone". And Im sure no one feels lonely only on Valentines Day. So whats all the fuss about?
Ok so there are hearts and other "romantic" decorations everywhere, maybe some special shows on TV but its not even a public holiday. I always barely notice it. It makes sense to pay attention to it if you have someone to spend it with but if not why don't you just spend your day as usual. You are definitely not the only person on the planet who wont be celebrating tonight. Believe me most people won't. And an amazing amount of people actually break up because of the massive pressure to be this ideal couple on this specific day.
Also I find the whole idea of this celebration quite ridiculous. Why do you need a special day to show someone you love them? Why is this day so much more important than all others? Maybe tomorrow you'll meet someone wonderful and then your every day would be like a Valentines Day.... will you still be upset that you were alone on 14th of February?
Dont let this highly commercialised celebration bring you down. If flower shops, restaurants and jewellery stores want one more day to make people spend loads of money that mustn't make you feel like ****.
So if you have a special someone try to have a nice no pressure day. Its not THE MOST IMPORTANT day of your life as a couple and it doesn't have to be perfect, at most its just another day to show how much you love each other and you have to continue to show it after Valentines Day is over. And if you don't - remember that you might meet you true love on any day and that being single on Valentines day doesn't make you an outcast , you shouldn't feel insecure.
