Christmas In October

A personal story in the experience: I Tired of Materialistic Commercial Holidays
T here I was buying Halloween candy for myself, Snickers, Take 5, and Dark peanut M&Ms, on October 8th when I turned and bumped a display rack. I quickly looked down to see what fell and saw a box of Christmas cards.

As my friend picked up the cards I looked around to see some wreathes, lights, and those houses covered with snow. I couldn't believe it. October 8th, a Thursday. which means they put them up on the 4th or earlier.

I think it is disgusting that they start so early so you feel pressured to buy. The only thing I will accept is if a store has a layaway plan. If you know what someone wants and can get it early and pay for it over time that's fine. But this other stuff is insane.

I'm fine with that. Pay it off over time. Just no Christmas trees and decorations out before November. I'll give you November to start the onslaught.

i've known people to start their christmas shopping in september to avoid the holiday madness in stores andf malls and such

personally i started thinking about christmas in agust as far as saving money

plus for people who don't celibrate halloween of for those that christmas is the bigger holiday... they may have the money in october but not december

Also people tend to start puting up their christmas things up day after thanksgiving the month of nov. is consumed with thanksgiving so having the stuff out gives people the opportunity to maker early decisions on such things

particularlly for those who know they need a new tree or they know their lights went out last year or for people who are furnishing a new house just bought one or got an appartment (the latter being me)

i'm going to be looking for a tree and other christmas things i just thought the other day that if i want a tree i should buy it at the store on my nov. trip not the dec. one because that is too close to christmas and the tree won't be up that long

also having it out in october gives peoople a chance to see whats out there see what they want and save the money to buy specific items

I agree about the money thing or if you see something you know someone will want/need.

I just hate how they start putting stuff out earlier and earlier each year. I realize it has to do with the economy too.

they will do anything to get people to buy in this economy

but wshat i think people don't realize is its not all materialism or consumerism its retailers knowing their buyers

they know they have early birds who want to buy so they put it out there and for someone like me in a new apartment buying a little of everything i need time to price check this stuff look at my money and be able to make my decisions

I hope you don't go overboard with the new apartment. Sounds like you are a smart shopper.
