I Trans Global Amnesia
Hello I am 73 year old female from Queensland, Australia.
I have had 3 episodes of Trans Global Amnesia within 8 months. Because of this I am very frightened to leave the house and suffer anxiety and panic attacks.
My 1st episode was wrongly diagnosed as a TIA mini stroke.
My 2nd episode was wrongly diagnosed as Epilepsy and was put on epilim.
The 3rd episode proved it was TGA.
My memory was gone for over 12 hours each time. Each time I was told i was very distressed and had the repeated questioning over and over for the 12 hours.
I was very confused when i came to in hospital each time, wondering what had happened.
I was also taking a statin drug and see its a common theme here. ????
Also was going through periods of stress and the hospital indicated it could be brought on by stressful events or stressful times.
This helps me to read other peoples stories. I feel better knowing other people know what I am going through with this as I was convinced it was the start of alzheimers or dementia but have been told they are unrelated. (Phew!!)
I have since altered my eating habits to lower the cholesterol naturally. Trying to be on as few drugs as possible but also on Plavix for blood thinning and Micardis for High Blood pressure but small doses.
The hospital were suprised of it being the Third episode as they thought its usually only one or two episodes ever.
Hoping this never occurs again and relieved to have found this site.
