The Innocence Of Muslims

I do not condone violence. As a Christian, there are times when I feel upset or offended by the way the media depict Jesus. But I do not respond with violence - I believe Jesus is awesome and above such pettiness. However, supporting free speech does not mean I approve of the film "The Innocence of Muslims". I actually watched about 14 minutes of it and decided I had seen enough to make a judgement on it and class it under "inflammatory trash - put it in the bin". I believe that film to be, to use internet jargon, entirely trollish: deliberately upsetting and inflammatory with the primary intent of provoking people into an emotional response. In other words, that movie is a piece of garbage.

I am saddened, at the same time, that some of the people behind it claim to be Christians. What good does such a film do for Jesus and the gospel? NOTHING. It just begets hate. How can people believe in a loving, wise Saviour if His so-called representatives create such hateful, idiotic trash?

The sad thing is, instead of dismissing this film as the stupidity it is, some people respond with violence and threats. Do they realise that by doing so, they're buying into the author's very intent?

At the end of the day, those who are upset about this stupid film can do just what I do about things like the South Park Jesus: Just. Don't. Watch it!

Belgian political cartoonist Kroll seems to agree:
"But... if I don't like a film, I just don't watch it. That's all"
