We Aren't Always What We Do

A personal story in the experience: I Try to View People Separately From Their Actions
I work with special needs children. I have come to learn that their bodies often do things contrary to what they would like them to do. I've watched some children agonize over actions they have taken, and others genuinely lack the control over what they do. I have had to separate the children from their behaviours: embracing the child, while rejecting the behaviour.

So too with "normal" adults, I have learned to look past or deeper into words and actions, separating the person from both. We all tend to wear masks in front of others. Sometimes those masks are words, sometimes they're actions. Ok, so people say that actions speak louder than words, and in a sense I do believe that. But a person can just as easily "fool" you with actions as they can with words. I think it is important to look beyond both to the intent. Intent is born in the heart, where the real person lives.

Very insightful Raven. Special needs children in particular show us more than we realise sometimes.
