R.i.p. Blue

About a few years ago I decided to totally change my life, move to a new city, new partner, new place to live, new job in other words a start a new life.
I was always curious about betta fishes. I used to look at them and was really intrigued by this. Cute little tiny creatures.
And there came Blue, my first fish in my favorite color, he was so calm to look at and the attention I got every time I talked to him, swimming back and forward but most of the time he keep staring back at me.
Until 3 days ago he completely stop eating. All he wanted to do is lay down and sleep. Yesterday I decided to spend sometime a little longer with him, talking, taping the glass and I can tell I was getting his full attention, trying to encourage him to eat, he would just look at the food and ignore it ( which is weird on a fish, they are always hungry ) and then the next day to my surprise the first thing I do when I wake up is feed them and there he was up side down, pale.
The reason why he became an important pet to me is fishes have their own personality and his matched with mine but he was also part of my new life, my new pet, I just didn't expected for it to die that fast.

I don't know much about fishes but so far betta fish doesn't require a lot of maintenance but thank you for the tip, I don't know if I should consider having one in the future.
