Corey Chambers On Ebay Got Start By Selling Olympic Greeting Cards As Kid
Posted January 14th, 2010 at 11:09PM
I enjoyed the entrepreneurial activities of looking at the prize catalog, looking at the greeting card catalog and knocking on doors in the neighborhood to meet people and take their orders for Christmas cards etc. I won a radio and a big inflatable raft. Had lots of fun in the raft at the beach and swimming pools (not very many lakes or rivers near Long Beach, CA).
It was a fantastic start to learn about setting goals, sales, customer service, follow-up and responsibility. I would later go on to garner thousands of customer, and sell millions of dollars of products and services. I currently own the largest eBay drop off store in Orange County. In Los Angeles, I'm known as the eBay Guru to the Stars.
I wonder if the younger generation is missing out by being discouraged from working and taking part in entrepreneurial activities at a young age. I trust that they are -- they are simply doing it in a different way. There are many young internet entrepreneurs these days who know how to reach far more customer than just their neighbors I'm sure.

Drive a piece of history when you own a 1941 Ford Super Deluxe Business Coupe. The 1941-1948 Ford Super DeLuxe was a popular and attractive line that saved Ford Motor Company during the strife-filled World War II era. This week, a fine example of the Super Deluxe is for sale at auction on eBay. See it at tinyurl.com/superdeluxe

I agree with you that today's youth are missing out on the maturation process. I think their parents have underestimated the quality working at a young age affords their children when it comes to learning about economics, psychology, business, and personal responsibility that working at a young age teaches.
I have tried educating my daughter as early as possible, but I think I created a monster when, at 4 years old, she sold pebbles she had painted to the neighbors. They actually bought them! I was shocked, but shouldn't have been. After all, she was so cute at four! -
