HSV 1 is what causes cold sores. The kind of herpes that is an STD is HSV 2, and causes genial herpes. What you have is common and doesn't need a doctor visit. You don't have an std.

it is an std though. can spread to someone's junk during oral.

HSV-2 is an std and you can get it orally, but it will cause a different type of sore than an HSV-1 cold sore.

that does not change the fact that both hsv 1 and 2 are stds and can appear & spread both orally and on genitals.

......please read:

and from the CDC:

"Genital herpes is an STD caused by two types of viruses. The viruses are called herpes simplex type 1 and herpes simplex type 2."

http://m.cdc.gov/en/HealthSafetyTopics/DiseasesConditions/STDs/herpesFS

...

"Cold sores are usually caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1, which is transmitted by such forms of contact as kissing an infected person or sharing eating utensils, towels, or razors. Genital herpes is usually caused by herpes simplex virus type 2. A person with a cold sore who performs oral sex on another person can give that person genital lesions with HSV-1."
