I Visited a Chiropractor
Okay, first time you see a doctor, you gotta tell them your history, right? So Doc was asking me all the normal questions...then asked me if I'd suffered any spinal trauma. Well, now you mention it....
There's me falling off the risers in a high school choir competition
And the two car wrecks I had while driving
Oh yeah, and the two more car crashes were I was a passenger
And the couple zillion times I fell down the stairs, including the one I cracked my tailbone
And carrying a backpack that weighed more than me through most of my school carreer
Is that it?
Oh yeah, nearly forgot. Growing up in a house with two physically abusive parents, and getting knocked around by assorted family "friends"
I'm pretty sure I saw tears hanging at the edges of Doc's eyes when I was done with my recital. They were even more pronounced when I warned him that until I got used to him/his office/etc. to expect me to jump when he touched me if I didn't see him first.
He did. He made a point to speak to me and not have me lay down on the table until the last minute before he worked. He worked with me and my issues, and helped my back a lot.
And always showed me compassion, while never making me feel like less of a human being.
