I Want a Telescope
About 20 years ago I bought a cheap refracting telescope (where you look through the lenses). Truth is, it wasn't very good. Moon looked great. Rings on Saturn were OK. In fact, lying on my back on the ground with my head on a cushion and using binoculars was better. With binoculars I got to see a couple of galaxies. The telescope stayed in it's box for 10 years, then I gave it to a charity shop. Maybe someone else got fun from it, but I suspect it would only confirm to them too, that you need something more expensive!
I have looked at nice refracting (where you look into a mirror) telescopes - ones with motors which track the movement of the night sky. That is what I really should buy. Looking online, it is obvious you have to be very careful what you buy because there are lot of poor performers out there, even if they aren't all that cheap.
I keep promising myself I will get what I want one of these winters.
