There are exceptions to the use of condums in swinging. Occasionally, a couple who will meet another with limited experience, first-timers, without other experience.
Those are typically "bareback" encounters. If the couples have a mutually exclusive relationship, condums are rare.

Swingers are very likely to use protections. The real deal about swingers is they are quick to assume whatever role makes the people around them the most comfortable and willing to stretch themselves to try new things. When you go to a swingers' party or club, nobody tries to push themselves on you and men and women always ask both spouses if "it's okay". I have been surprised to discover that even though swingers are absolute ***** (a term they wear with pride) they are some of the most caring, respectful and moral people you'll run into. You are unlikely to find a swinger cheating on their spouse!

Every study I've seen on STD's in the swinging community suggest that swingers aren't any more prone to STD's than the general population. Swingers tend to be fairly likely to use precautions like condoms. Also, folks in a swing club can often get a good visual look at their partner while naked-which means they can easily exclude partners with visible signs of herpes or other STD's. Also mainly swing clubs specifically limit attendees to folks that are clearly in a stable relationship-which means we are talking a different population than folks that are cruising bars.
A big factor of STD's in the general population include factors like a tendency to have sex with IV drug users.

Also, there are quite a few "soft swingers" around that only have intercourse with their primary partner-and either watch or have oral sex with others.
these are the folks that do STD testing among **** actors. **** actors have a carefully monitored STD testing program-and actually have a lower rate of STD's than the general population despite being VERY sexually active. Basically all mainstream **** actors get tested very 30 days for chlamydia, gonnorhea and HIV-and 2 times per year for the other STD's. There _are_ actors that have herpes or other STD's. Sometimes that means they are limited in who they can act with-or their prospective partner is exceptionally careful.
I've only known a few swing groups that had formal STD testing requirements, but I think we need to be careful here about what we assume. I'd personally feel much safer with a partner that regularly got tested and expected all her partners to disclose the same to her than someone that claimed to be monogamous-but had never gotten tested.

yeah that was kinda mean ancientcelt...i think it's interesting...i might have to talk to mine.

ancientcelt... that was kind of harsh...
