I L O V E B R I D G E S

I'VE WALKED ON SOME HAIRY BRIDGES
ESPECIALLY IN SOUTH EAST ASIA !

ONE OF NEW ZEALAND'S BETTER ROPE BRIDGES.
PLEASE EXCUSE THE SHORTS & T-SHIRT &  HAIR !

I love bridges to get from A to B
Big bridges - small bridges
They're all the same to me
Crossing rivers - crossing ridges
Cheers for the man who invented BRIDGES

When we look back in history
To find evidence for man
It isn't found in writing
Or an opener for a can
Or a spray to drive away the midges
NO - the evidence for intellectual man is BRIDGES

TOWER BRIDGE LONDON - AN ICON !

Islands pose a problem
You can reach them by boat
But that can be quite hazardous
In bad weather they don't stay afloat
Wales is separated
From the Isle of Anglesey
By the Straights of Menai
But in eighteen twenty three
Telford's fine Suspension Bridge
Was built without mishap
The Menai Straights divided
But Telford "Bridged the Gap"

THE ELEGANT MENAI SUSPENSION BRIDGE.
IT REALLY IS BEAUTIFUL AND A TRIBUTE TO
TELFORD'S ENGINEERING SKILL AND VISION.

All Countries have a gap to fill
Australia's no exception
To bridge the Sydney Harbour
was a wonderful conception !
Built in nineteen thirty two
It really is a sight
Perfect frame for the Opera House
And very photogenic in the  night !

THE ICONIC SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE - EVEN MORE
MAJESTIC WHEN YOU ACTUALLY SEE IT FOR YOURSELF !

THE AWESOME BOSPHORUS BRIDGE IN TURKEY
LINKS ASIAN TURKEY WITH EUROPEAN  TURKEY
IT WAS COMPLETED IN 1973 AND AT 1500 METERS
IS ONE OF THE LONGEST SUSPENSION BRIDGES.
IT IS TRULY A REAL TRANSCONTINENTAL BRIDGE !

Thanks to JANIFE for pointing out this omission !

I apologise if I didn't include your favourite BRIDGE.
Comment and let me know and I will rectify - WHITE SPIRIT.

Beautiful poem about Bridges. One very, very special and important bridge you missed. It is maybe the most important Bridge in the world. It is the Bosphorous Bridge in Istanbul which connects two continents Europe and Asia. I have seen the bridge and it really is impressive. However, I really did love your poem about other famous and interesting bridges of this world. So lets bridge the world of nationalities to a world population and build bridges instead of barriers.

Thanks very much for this, also the photo is just magnificent. On fb I have a picture of the Bosphorous Bridge as my profile pic. You can't imagine what this Bridge means to me. It is not just because it is in Turkey but because of what it symbolises. I have a question to you . Can I use your poem about bridges in my English lesson?
It would be nice for my students to read it and practice their English. Keep up the good work with your very inspiring poems.
