DIAMOND is the hardest substance known

DIAMONDS increase in value according to CUT
DIAMONDS are for ever and never lose value !

DIAMONDS REALLY ARE A GIRLS BEST FRIEND
SO MAKE A RESOLVE IF A MAN GIVES YOU A
DIAMOND NEVER EVER RETURN IT IF YOU SPLIT UP!
Diamonds are not rare and can be manufactured synthetically for industrial use as cutting tools an abrasives. It is the large natural diamonds that are valuable particularly the coloured ones. Calculating the value of a CUT DIAMOND is more difficult than say the value of gold or silver. Precious metals sell by weight and purity with a DIAMOND - SIZE MATTERS ! Additionally colour - clarity - cut also affect the price. For cut diamonds of similar colour (white) and clarity the value (in US $) per CARAT (200mg) increases as the size increases:
0.46 to 0.49 C 2800 per carat
1.00 to 1.49 C 6600 per carat
2.00 to 2.49 C 10200 per carat
5,00 to 5.49 C 16700 per carat
I haven't given the complete list t it shows that a diamond OF FIVE CARATS even though it is only ten times the weight of a diamond of just under half a carat it is worth not just ten times as much but SIXTY TIMES as much - size does matter. So ladies - if your man offers you a diamond ask for a big one ! LIZ TAYLOR always did !

COLOURED DIAMONDS are rarer than white ones and consequently - carat for carat - are more valuable. The most famous coloured diamond is a BLUE ONE called the HOPE DIAMOND it was mined in India in a about 1650. It is 45 carats and is in the SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM in WASHINGTON DC which also houses the SHEPARD YELLOW DIAMOND (18.5 CARATS) and the MOUSSAIEFF RED DIAMOND (5.1 CARATS) which is the largest red diamond in the world. The exhibition is called "SPLENDOR OF DIAMONDS" and is one of the most visited exhibitions in the world. Everyone is fascinated by diamonds and wants to see them and feel their fire. I visited a Diamond Cutting Factory in Haifa Israel and it was nice to see "diamond cutting" in progress and to handle cut and uncut diamonds worth many thousands of pounds. Due to total internal reflection a cut diamond captures sunlight which gives a cut diamond its inner fire.
