Longing For Leitrim

My ancestry is that of the O'Rourkes of Co Leitrim.  I am American, and have no real hopes of ever visiting the home of my royal ancestors.  I collect photos, and hope to find a pen pal in that County.

And the story of Eiru.In old Irish legend she was a goddess of the Tuatha De Dannan. When the Celtic Gaels came to Ireland they fought them for control of Inisfree(Ireland) Eiru told the poet Amergin that she would allow the Gaels to win in return for naming the island after her.Needless to say the Gaels won.So Eiru has become in modern Irish-Eire.And this the name of the island to this day.Its all in the Leabhor Gabala Erianne(Irish Book of Invasions). The Tuatha De Dannan went underground(being gods and majical people). They became the fairy people of Irish legend.

Dont give up hope of seeing the old sod! Im not. There is still a castle in County Monaghan called Maghernacloy. It used to be ours and I will see it one day.

I have email pals in Scotland, so IF there was ever a way to get overseas, I would have your guides. these fellows know Ireland as well as their own country, and would be great tour guides and sources of information. it's all a matter of money. *sigh* not to mention kenneling my dogs, which is heartbreaking. i think i'll just view the breathtaking pix, and read read read to learn from whom I came.
