I Am a Fan of the Shadows

I am in love with the creepers behind the scenes.  Those beautiful, unsung string pullers that keep this backdrop in our sight.

Did anyone know that last Monday, March 16, 2009 that an asteroid almost hit our planet? It was the size of a skyscraper and if it didn't wipe us all out, it would have gotten quite a few of us. I passed between us and the moon on its way out of our orbit. I love the shadows. They said "not now" and it deviated.

I see them everywhere around me. I know that they're there.  They wake me up at night, standing above me and watching me. Once I was even awoken by one whose face was no more than mere centimeters away from mine.  They terrify me and I love that about them.  They have no boundaries. They have no fences or leashes. They do as they will. How could one not respect that?

They give me my nightmares. However, once the sweat is gone and I have caught my breath, I understand what they were telling me.

I don't shun from them. Never do I try to hide from them.  I am blessed to know of them and I embrace them. My life wouldn't be the same without them.

A bridge was struck in my hometown by a barge that took out the portion where my wife and infant daughter would have driven over.  She said on the phone that she stopped because she could have sworn that someone walked out in front of her car and then the barge hit the bridge.  When I asked her what the person was wearing, she couldn't put a face on them. She could only remember that they were wearing all black and one minute they were there and the next they were gone.

Thank the Gods for the shadows.  I love them so much.
