I Want to Encourage Others to Start Writing
I am the only avid writer I know of (outside of EP) I have written things down on post-it notes, pieces of paper, notebooks and journals for a long time and although as a teenager I used to write whilst squirreled away in my bedroom where I couldn't be seen. I am now happy to write publicly...well by publicly I mean whilst sitting in front of the TV with family or friends or in the corner of my favourite coffee shop, or on EP of course!
No one in my family has ever kept a journal before, and whenever someone sees me take out my book and my favourite pen my family's response is usually "Oh here she goes again" and they are always very curious about the things I write. I very rarely share things from my journals, though I do plan to at some point. but some of them have said "I wish I could do that" and I try to explain that anyone has the ability to write, though family members who say they wish they could write then go on to say that they don't have the patience to do so. I have often said that I would love to help someone, (especially someone who wants to keep a journal) to start the process.
It's not about having the patience to write. It's about thoughts and feelings and having something to say. It seems scary to begin with to be faced with a blank page, but I love the challenge, and to have someone become interested and for me to share with them something I love so much would be wonderful!
