Immigration Policy Now

I think each state has the right to dictate what is best for their state and people. The government said a lot of things during the election and has not done anything to protect the legal americans here. I think they need to sit down and come up with a policy that is fair for all involved. In the meantime close the borders to mexico and limit how many can be legally entered into the united states. We limit other groups why not here too.

Canadians aren't interested in mass, illegal immigration here, Mexicans are. Canada has a pretty decent set up and the Canadians know it. btw - Try being an illegal immigrant in Canada. It will be an enlightening experience.
Some people don't seem to understand the importance of national sovereignty. I often wonder what their reaction would be if they found their ideas actually put into force. What would they think when the U.S. then developed the religious tolerance of Saudi Arabia or the economic vibrancy of Mexico.

I suppose if you've been taught that the U.S. is basically evil destroying our national sovereignty would make sense, but not if you had any real concept of what we have or why it's important. Centuries of immigrants have come here seeking to share in the American dream, not remake the U.S. in the image of the countries they escaped from.

Glib statements about excluding Jews and Asians serve only to cover and ignore real issues, but then real issues are anathema to Liberals. It's just not politically correct.

I wonder what kind of ad hominem attacks I'm going to get over this?

There are several things wrong with our current immigration rules. Basically it's insanely time consuming to and overly complex.

On my mother's side, I'm first generation in this country and I looked up her Ellis Island records. Back in the 1920's there were only about a dozen items needed for immigration to the U.S. and they were taken care of after arrival here. You needed a sponsor, $50 in your pocket (in 1922 it was equal to about $700, pretty minimal), reasonably good health and you had to swear you weren't certain kinds of deviant. Look it up. With minor modifications, it would still work pretty well.

I've heard the argument that Obama and his running dogs like illegal immigrants because they see them as future Democratic voters. Especially when I come across article advocating voting rights for illegal immigrants, it rings true.

The first concept to be looked at is that they are by definition, illegal. I'll consider making an exception for people who came here illegally as small children and really haven't known any other country, but that's about it. The whole concept of an Anchor Baby makes me want gag. It's obscene and a perversion of both family values and justice. Deport the parents and give them the option of taking the kid with them or forever giving up any parental rights. You could allow the kids to return when they were adults.

children are an important factor since they are born here and are usa citizens and you want to keep them with there parents i guess something has to be done if the parents work here legally and make strides to be citizens or to pay their fair share of taxes. Its those who take advantage of the system of government here we should look at and our own system that needs a major overhaul

Why just close the Mexican Border, why not also close the Canadian border also? Yes we get illegals from Canada also, so would that be fair?

i understand where your getting at dragon and in my statement i did say fair and i did say to limit those coming over. i didnt say decide who should be here and who shouldnt. Thanks for the comments i appreciate learning from others opinions and thoughts.

Oh let us not stop at states. Let's have border patrols for each town, so we can keep out the "wrong kind of people", you know who I mean THEM. Maybe even block patrols with guns and dogs because if THEY are allowed to live near us, well life will be terrible.

Certainly the poor should not be allowed except those we can exploit or have clean our houses and pools, but they should have to wear chains while they do that.

And the Mexicans well we all know about them. You see them everywhere working and working and working some more. Disgusting.
Well and the blacks because you see them everywhere not working.
And the Japanese and Chinese well all asians because they are shifty eyed. (I know my wife was Japanese and my daughters both have asian eyes, but christ we need to be protected!)
And the Indian from India because well they are brown and some almost black and well the white ones look a bit strange.

I think it is important if we do this that we burn the history books because those show that immigration always makes the country and economy stronger.

Maybe patrols between every house. We just breed within the family, because that has worked so well with the European royal families.

And you being asian should go back to where you came from! I do not care you were born here. Probably your parents came here before we had really good immigration laws, so let's make this stuff retroactive.

We need a really high fence between here and Canada, because they LOOK like the Right ones of Us, but they talk funny.

You should be very afraid, because They are coming to get your stuff. I think you all need to get a gun. If you see someone coming, shoot first and then when you roll them over you will be able to see if they were friend or foe.

Sarah, this isn't about race, segregation, or slavery. And it's also not about States doing whatever they want.

Since the Union was created (which, BTW, the US is a Republic, not a Democracy.) the States have had sovereignty. Read the Tenth Amendment. The States are granted sovereignty to avoid being at the mercy of a tyrannical government.

The Federal government is supposed to protect the borders; that is one of their duties. Problem is, they are refusing to outline any sort of plan to do so. The Feds aren't doing their job, so the States have decided to step up and assert their rights. That's all that's going on here.

I AGREE AND MY STATE IS FULL OF ILLEGALS I LIVE IN TEXAS

A state has the right to decide what's best? Suppose a state decided it didn't like Jews, or Asians, or mimes! If you read your history, some states decided that slavery was way cool, and when that didn't work out, some states had segregation which denied basic rights to black people, and in some cases, to Mexicans and Asians. I don't disagree that the border situation is a mess, but the idea that states can do whatever they want is not a good idea. Unless they want to ban mimes. That I can agree with.

I'm with you, illegal immigration is a serious problem. I've worked in the ER at a hospital and almost half the patients that come in are illegal immigrants. Non of them have insurance and no means to pay, so the hospital get stuck. Because of this the hospital has to reduce staff in the ER to reduce costs and everyone suffers.

Think about it the next time you have to wait 2-3 hours to get seen in the ER.

I agree with you, the Mexican border should be closed no matter what the cost.

I have nothing against legal immigrants, my grandparents are legal immigrants from Japan. There is already a quota on legal immigrants from Mexico and that is OK. But those that enter illegally should be deported and never be considered for legal immigration. Why reward them for breaking the law?
