Giving Back For What I Have Received

I have been fortunate within my life that when I needed help the most there was a kind and generous person somewhere in the picture. Some of these people didn't have the means to be so generous and selfless as they were while others gave support, which was just as much needed as anything else. And every time I wanted to give up, a hand would reach out of the darkness to grasp mine.
When I was little I heard a song called "The Chain of Love" by Clay Walker. And although there was no love, no caring or softness within my core family, the song still spoke to my own idea of the world. The best part of the song was the chorus:
You don't owe me a thing, I've been there too
Someone once helped me out,
Just the way I'm helping you
If you really want to pay me back,
Here's what you do
Don't let the chain of love end with you.
And so I have started slowly giving back to the world around me with my support, my wisdom and whatever I might be able to spare. The looks on the faces I help, the relief for even a temporary moment and the knowledge that I can be of assistance even for a little bit is the greatest treasure that I have now.
But with the increasing floundering of the economy I just don't know how long I can continue to help those or whether they will want my help. All I can do is offer and hope for the best....
