Old Woman. Lunch Time. In Our Restaurant.

It was lunch time and i was sitting at the customer's table listening to music. Then an old woman came in. She looked rugged. You'll know that she lives on the street. I just watched her at first. She went to the counter and she was handing something over to our waitress. Then i think our waitress told her to go away. I was curious so i went to the counter and checked what was going on. The old woman told me she wants to eat and she'll pay but for only Php5.00. She's willing to pay and not just to ask for food but that's all she got.
She was really old, she was kinda weak, but still she was smiling. I always get soft every time i see an old man/woman who needs help. So i told her, "Keep your money and sit at a table. What do you want for lunch?" She answered "Just a few rice and veggies." I think she's shy that's why she told me FEW. but then i told our waitress to give her some soup and a real meal.
After she ate, she went to me, held my hand, smiled and thanked me. Deep inside, i felt so happy! The happiness was really different. It's like I felt at peace and everything turned out positive. It was the best feeling i felt!
She kept coming back during lunch time, and our waitress knew what to do. I just kept welcoming her to our restaurant.
Then the very last time she went there, she gave me a gift. I was touched. She had nothing but still, she got something for me. It was a fresh fish wrapped in a plastic bag. I accepted it and thanked her. She was smiling. After that day, she never came back. I don't know what happened to her and I hope she's okay.
So now, when i fulfill my big dreams, one of the things I'll do is to help poor people in need. I want to feel that HAPPY-CALM feeling again. =)

Okay. I'll admit it. I'm choked up. In my 20's, I'd have done much the same as you. Age and cynicism have taken their toll and of late, those in need have become barely visible to me. I suppose I could have read any similar story and felt this way -- but as it happens, I've read yours. Thank you for the reawakening.

When people are down, who goes out to help them?
A sick person in hospital, a cripple lying in the street, a leper shunned...........you name it, everywhere human beings are ignoring one another.
Imagine how each would feel when someone is kind to them?
They would feel the touch of God through the person.
The person would feel on the top of the world.
Both ways, its a beautiful relationship.....Keep loving one another as Jesus loves you.

I am happy to have helped save the life of a very nice woman, who later helped save my life. We are now married and inseparable. She is not only my wife, but my best friend.

Whoa! I somehow believe in these type of stories, that the woman was God. Or at least, she is a messenger from God to test whether you love Him. And you did the right thing! Thanks for sharing this, I really love the fact that it is real and it really happened, not just in religious stories.

It's like the story where there is a beggar asking for a place to sleep, then the house owner just shoo away the beggar, then God said, the house owner has refused God.

aww. wow what a touching story. helping someone who is indeed need of your help, is always good. my mother always says " if you help someone who is in need of your help, something good will return to you." i always tell myself that. but good for you. your story just made my day.

That is wonderful, and touching. It sounds like you are in the Philippines? When I went last year with my wife I went out of my way to help people - I would be happy if I could help them every day. I hope you never loose that part of yourself - you are an inspiration to people all over the world!
