I thought it was short for malicious GURL and was just more childish abuse. Thanks for the steer. Thanks also for letting me know that all the penis enlargement and erectile dysfunction ads are specifically targeted at me. I was fending off the paranoia quite well until I read this post and the informative comments.

Well the advertisers seem to think that's about all I could manage.

'Data mining' is a fact of life.

I live in Minnesota, home of General Mills. 2 years ago I was chattin with a friend, askin how things were in Golden Valley (home to Gen Mills). Side ad on yahoo IM flipped to Cheerios. We've actually wasted time (plenty) tryin to make different ads/companies appear.

A tremendous amount of communication takes place by 'Instant Messaging'. In almos every popular form. IM is free. Data mining comes with the territory ... ads pay the bills. Here at Ep, I think the meebo platform is LibPurple or Pidgin based.

If you are running a good anti virus plus other security programs that protect your computer, the default settings could be set to keep you from viewing any page it may see as a threat. I had that wotnot program and had to remove it. So you might want to check those things as well.

Yeah, this is a good thread Woobie! VERY interesting about ads for lingerie after a conversation about it. WTF is that about? I've noticed something similar too :( I never click on the ads.

LOL. I was joking with Sie the other day about how after reading her latest installment on Huan, the ads on the side were for Asian dating services. Kinda cracked me up, but confused the heck out of my poor assistant when she got on a little later.

AWSOME thread Woob's!!. I'm glad EPArsineh will have somebody check into it too. I do get "warnings" when I'm here too. So far so good with catching everything tho. I also NEVER click on the ads. Our techie guy said clicking on them opens your computer up to even worse stuff.

Thanks Aether for you're smart words too! I LOVE my smart buddies!!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It will help us track the issue if we know which browser and version you are using as well as which add-ons you have running on your computer.

@Aether... hmmmph. me no likey. that sounds like bad business. i used to pay for a membership here because i spent so much time on the site. i guess i will have to keep that in mind the next time i start to feel guilty about not becoming a paying member.

    *grrrr....*

Look to the right of your screen, see all those adds? Virus/malware companies have a database that they include with their software that flags certain add sites that have been known to spread spyware and malware to their customers, EP does business with those add companies and that is why you get the pop up warnings.

Some of the stuff I look at on EP sets off our computer's "naughtiness" filter. It sucks when you guys are all pervin' on a hot story and it won't even let me open my profile because of it showing up in the activity feed ;-).

I'm patient, but I blame the filter more than anything. It's arbitrary and kinda dumb. If you're going to block stuff, at least be consistent about it so I know what to expect.
