Functionality From Tablets

Are there any plans on making EP more functional for iPad/tablet and mobile users? For instance, one of the things that is most frustrating is not being able to upload an avatar. I hate having to pick from the generic ones. And it's also frustrating having to set "desktop" EVERY single time I log on.

I know that plenty of sites, Facebook and others, have the ability to upload pictures from mobile devices. Why not here?

Are there any plans to make EP more functional for mobile device users? Even a web based app like Amazon has would be preferable. As more and more people abandon laptops for tablets, I would think EP developers would be interested in making the tablet/mobile experience a better one.

I'd be grateful for any answers. Thanks.

I realize these things take time, money, and beta-testing, but I'm still looking for the functionality of EP from an iPad or other tablet to improve. As a user that pays to support EP, I hope my voice will be heard here.

To reiterate, the functions I think fall into the "desperately needs improvement" category:

1. Uploading of photos/avatars on an Idevice or tablet. Facebook and other sites manage this seamlessly, no reason for EP to fall behind.

2. The windows for entering text are INSANELY tiny when trying to post a blog entry and when posting or replying in the "forum/chat" areas. I have no clue why the text space is so absurdly small for these two things as opposed to the decent size everywhere else, but it needs to be addressed!

3. Paragraphs do not format when "replying" to a comment. Any line breaks simply disappear when replying. Since forming paragraphs is possible everywhere else, AFAIK, I see no reason why it isn't possible when posting a reply to someone.

4. This one goes for all users, not just iPad users--there should be a way to edit replies, not just delete them. As of now, AFAIK, you can edit your comments and stories, but not replies.

I love it here, and I am making these suggestions with all due respect. If EP were to fix these three things for Idevice and tablet users, it would be a much more functional and enjoyable *experience* for those of us that have replaced our PC's with a tablet.

Since the tablet and iPad market is ENORMOUS, and growing exponentially, EP should keep in mind that very soon the majority of non-work related internet use will be done from a tablet. EP should try to cater to the technology or risk being hopelessly behind.

Well, the blog entries is another issue. The window for writing is tiny on an iPad.

Also, when posting a reply to one person in a story, as opposed to a general reply to all, it is the same tiny message window and paragraphs run together despite having line breaks when typing.

Those and the photo/avatar uploading are my main sources of frustration.

There isn't a way to, AFAIK. For the pics I posted, I had to drag out and dust off the laptop. A real pain in the azz.

I'm one that likes to play with avatars, but I'm not going through all that just to do it. It's a shame, because other sites like FB, let you pull straight from your photos on the iPad, or simpler still, copy and paste from picassa or other photo-hosting site.

Thanks for sharing this with us. We've made many recent changes that have made EP easier to view and browse through on mobile, ipads and other devices. We'll work on improving image uploading on these devices.
If you have any other frustrations using EP on these devices, please let us know.
