Deleting Groups With Adult Content

The last few times I've logged on I've received emails from EP support telling me certain groups had been deleted because they went against the Ts and Cs. Groups like, I want to rate your ****. which I know was made in jest, and other ones similar to it.
The reason. "This contains adult content, not suitable for Ep...." or something along those lines.
Why have an 'adult/mature' option for groups if you're going to delete them anyway?
Surely getting rid of the far obscure/twisted/illegal groups would be a good place to start?

Yeah. How about deleting pedo/****** groups, for a start? I give up on this place....

i agree with you on both counts.

I an glad to have clarified here what is going on. I want to thank MrsLalaninjacakes for writing a story that led to this clarification. I am on record that I do not believe EP should drift into becoming a **** site and that I flag nudity on open site. However, it is disconcerting for me to have confirmed that these groups are being deleted as a sort of collective punishment for the misbehavior of some people within them. I would greatly prefer that instead only the violating stories within them be deleted. I don't think KittenHasaWhip's story should have been deleted. It is troubling to know that when I post a story, its survival may be contingent not only on my behavior but on that of other people in the group. My suggestion is that if there is a group that is not inherently against the TOS / CG but where offenses have become chronic, that a red-colored warning against committing the offenses that have been seen be posted on the group's home page and "share your story" page. Where offenses have been chronic EP could assign someone to monitor the group at periodic intervals.

Thanks for posting Lala--I want to clear some things up. We DO NOT delete content because it's 'mature' EP is a place to share life experiences and let's face it sexuality and mature topics place a role in our adult lives.

What we don't allow are groups or post that violate our terms of service. The group you mentioned above contained explicit nude images, in face the stories themselves contained little or no text and only nude images. Whatever the original intent of the group, what it had become was a clear violations of our terms of service.

If you've had the impression that EP is deleting mature groups, then it's a clear flag to staff that we need to review and adjust the message that goes out so that members have a better understanding of which type of behavior violates or terms of service and why content is removed.

As far as why posts that violate our terms of service are allowed to be created in the first place, has been addressed by many members in the comments to this story. EP does not review each piece of content shared on the site before it's uploaded. Instead, we have some automated filters (but like any automated system, they're not perfect) so if something slips through, we rely on community members to flag inappropriate behavior so that it can be addressed.

EPArsineh, I appreciate you clarifying here what is going on. You are aware that I am on record that I do not believe EP should drift into becoming a **** site and that I flag nudity on open site. Where offenses have been chronic you could assign someone to monitor the group at periodic intervals.

I agree with this approach. I'm not sure that EP has the time or inclination to go through material, removing the bits it thinks offensive, though. I once posted a tribute story to someone on EP, that simply said she was a nice person. A couple of people said she wasn't, really, after which all hell broke loose, with insults and counter-insults flying. The recipient of the tribute kept silent. EP should have removed the over the top rude comments and left the tribute - but chose to delete everything instead. I can understand how time-consuming it would be to edit out stuff.

One of the ironies of relying on community members is that most of us keep right away from the really horrible stuff and so never read or report it. So, some survives: whereas less dreadful material may turn up in more mainstream situations, where a thin skinned individual may find it unacceptable and complain.

I had a good friend that sent me to this site, just ti see, what she was talking about. She left some months ago even though she was a very active member, but I am seeing why, Tobe frank I saw why within my first 48 hours on this site, but because I promised her to stay a month, I have, actually now it has been several months. I tried being active, but then had to take a break from the ignorance and the silly and mismanaged way this site is run. It has rules of membership, but it appears to only apply when managment says they do. I have yet to come online here that I have not seen several violations of the rules. I must admit I tried and experiment and violated a bunch of the rules and nothing happened. Yet this sites managment or monitors, however they do it is either not paying much attention to members needs and wants or just does not care and will run it or not run it however they wish, which appears rather arbitary.

I have seen a few changes in the site in the short time I have been here, but they appear cosmetic or effect the members or the site negatively. They seem to want an all inclusive site (very liberal of them) and yet at the same time want to censor things they deem negative or offensive. The reality is, you cannot have a site truly open for all discussions in life and include both adults and underage children and young adults (18 and below). I see no real way of keeping them out of adult areas, so I believe to keep the site successful you have to keep them out all together. I am aware this is not fully possible, but there are ways to slow them and some have parents that monitor their kids site or lock them out of adult sites. EP talks about their filters are getting better. Seriously? What filters and how can the get better. This is something that is in the programing. It either filters certain words or it doesn't. If you think of it, their are harmless none offensive words that can have an offensive meaning. Many are used in childrens fables, stories and such. Or how about certain expressions that are not mean to be offensive, but a word in them or possibly the entire saying could be used in an offensive manner. How is a pre programmed computer going to know when or not something is used offensively? Or what about a serious, non titilating (will they censor that?) article on a sexual matter. I have seen some very good ones and they were sometimes heavily censored or even deleted.

The ideal, I think would be to have an adult EP and a completely separate one for underage members. I for one do not like receiveing friendship requests from underage people of either sex, period, yet I get them even after EP recommended I set my profile for adult material. I did and nothing changed. Now at slightly over two months as a member here, it is time for me to stop wasting time and get back to work. I will remain for the rest of this week, so a couple of my comments can be seen as requested by one of my few friends here. I'm not in the dirty old man category, at all, but I have a strong aversion to arbitrary censorship and stupidity, and EP seeems to have an over abundance of both. Present company excepted. (smile).

I've noticed they have been deleting some quite tame adult groups lately that in no way would be seen as breaking EP guidelines. I have a feeling that there are some people on EP who are just "flaggers" and keep pressing the button regardless. Ultimately, with the small staff EP have I suspect some groups get deleted without investigation. Just a theory mind. Its a shame..since those tame adult groups that have been deleted lose some very time consuming and relevant stories as well. It kind of puts you off writing stories, which has become quite a problem for ep for a while as the lurkers increase and the authors diminish.

"I want to rate your d**k" is a group that was started in jest by the very well-known EPeep KittenHasAWhip. Is that the one they deleted?

I am amazed that they would delete a group like that and some others they have been deleting lately. http://www.experienceproject.com/stories/Want-To-Improve-E-P-Support----Epsupport/2236077 There are many far, far more problematic groups they have not deleted, like one about "I want to eat sh*t". Uh, ask the Health Department--that is a very, very bad idea.

I would like to request of EP Support that they give the membership some insight into their thinking. are these groups themselves regarded as in violation? If so, please explain it to us, because why is not self-evident. Are these groups being deleted as a sort of collective punishment for the misbehavior of some people within them?

It just seems silly that they're deleting groups based on them having mature content, yet they allow mature content groups to be made.

Those that offend me I don't join. I'm sure there some I'm in that offend some people. How dull this world would be if we made sure no one was offended by anything.

Really? I'm in some adult groups, but haven't gotten such notices. I agree, It is a bit silly. Some of the groups here are gross, no doubt about it, and in retrospect I probably wouldn't have joined a few that I did, but early on I was joining anything and everything. As long as kids, animals and actual force aren't involved, I don't see the harm in letting people talk about whatever they want.
