need to vent about Obama...so please don't bash me, Obama worshipers.
I'm not backing up Bush here. I'm not backing up Obama either. At the time, I think they're both idiots.
Bush got us into all this crap. I'm not denying that. We probably wouldn't be in this was and this recession if it wasn't for him. But he's gone, thank God, so I'm not going to complain about him anymore. The recession and the war are already here...we can't take that back. Now what we need is PROGRESS.
That's what I was hoping for with Obama. I was hoping he could turn all this crap around. He was a symbol of hope and change. And now, what's changed? We're even DEEPER into the recession.
I have no job right now. I've applied practically everywhere I can. Fast food and retail (I can't get a good full time job because I'm not out of college yet, so retail and fast food are basically my only choices). Nobody needs anybody. I thought Obama was supposed to create all these new jobs on the job market. I thought the unemployment rate was supposed to drastically shrink.
And where is my stimulus check? I thought everyone except really rich people was supposed to get this stimulus crap. I've got nothing. I'm a broke college kid. I need a huge stimulus, yet I have received nothing from Obama.
What was all this hope and change crap all about? All Obama has done has gotten Bush's mess and dug an even deeper hole. He hasn't given any money to the people who need it and will use it wisely. He's given it to these stupid car companies that just flush it down the drain. Not only is he spending waaaaay more than he can afford, but he's just giving it to idiots. How much better can you get than an idiot giving money to more idiots? Give it to someone responsible like me! I want a stimulus, goshdarnit! If I get enough, I'll give it to people! I love giving to the needy, seriously! I'll keep some for myself of course, but I'll give a lot to my church and some to charity...but I'm not going to give it to stupid car companies with a negative credit score!
And if you can't give me any money, at least create these jobs that you've been promising us...
I remember watching one of his speeches about why it's taking him so long to do this. He said that it wouldn't happen overnight...which is understandable. We're not going to wake up and be out of the recession. But he said it would take ten years to see any effects. TEN. He's going to be out of office by then, and we'll probably have an extremely conservative Republican in office by then, who will completely overturn everything Obama tried to do! Heck, how am I supposed to wait ten years to decide I like Obama if he's gone by then?
I just want to see some progress. I don't expect for us to be out of the recession overnight, but if I could just see the tiniest sign of progress, maybe I would have a little mercy on Barack O-moron. I suppose I'm probably expecting too much...logically, I know nothing is going to happen as fast as I want it to, but still, that doesn't change the fact that I want my danged money!
Are there ANY good politicians out there anymore?

   | Posted May 29th, 2009 at 1:42AM First, I think you misunderstood the stimulus plan. When Bush was in office the government passed a stimulus plan which gave people stimulus checks. I think it was $600 per person or $1200 per couple for eligible people. Sounded good, but it didn't have the effect that they thought it would. People took that money and either paid down debt or put it in savings. It didn't stimulate the economy at all. So when Obama came in our economy was seriously falling off the cliff. Look at the job loss figures in the past quarter, it's unreal. Giving people a stimulus check for a few hundred dollars, ESPECIALLY in this terrible economic climate, would have zero impact. Like throwing a baseball at a semi speeding toward you. The stimulus plan that Obama and Geitner decided on was one to pour money into infrastructure projects and a thousand other projects that conservatives hate. This stimulus plan is meant to actually create new jobs, but that is the part that takes time. The auto bailout and wall street bailouts are totally different things. In the next few months there will be lots of new jobs created by these government programs. The money he's throwing at the banks is trying to deal with the frozen credit markets, and I'm not sure if you've heard, but GM and Chrysler are going into bankruptcy because they couldn't meet the government demands they needed to meet if they wanted money from the government. There is no check coming to you, as far as I know.   |

| Posted May 29th, 2009 at 2:04AM He didn't give up on the stimulus plan. I explained to you that there were two different stimulus plans, the one under Bush and the one under Obama. Obama's wasn't in the form of give every person a check for a few hundred dollars, Obama's stimulus plan was to pour money into projects to try to create jobs. The government loaned money to GM and Chrysler (strangely, Ford turned down the money once they realized that it came with strings attached, such as caps on executive pay.... strange how Ford was hurting like the other two until they found out about the conditions that came with the loan, eh?) because they were trying to prevent them from going into bankruptcy. They took the money and tried to overhaul the companies to make them profitable right away, but it didn't work. Largely because conservative talking heads and politicians tried to use this opportunity to destroy the UAW union. Folks like Shelby, who is in the pocket of Kia in Georgia. They weren't trying to save the American car companies, they were cheering for them to lose so that foreign car companies in their states would benefit. It was really sick. |

 | Posted Aug 15th, 2009 at 7:53PM Remember this, the presidential office " President, Vice President and cabinet as well as those apponted by the president", has LIMITED POWER, The Congress and the Senate have the SAME power as the PRESIDENT!! Do not believe that a PRESIDENT will CHANGE the way things are, by themselves. Real change happens when all of these legislative, and executive offices truly believe in something, and when I say TRULY BELIEVE I mean it in a Meriam Webster definition of belief. Effective Positive economic Change can not come unless a Plan is created that these offices truly Believe works, is created. None has been created that anyone BELIEVES in, right now they just HOPE it CAN. |
| Posted Aug 15th, 2009 at 11:14PM Very true, and this is one reason I hate the political party system. If you have a Democratic president and a Republican Congress or Supreme Court, or vice versa, nothing gets done because nobody can agree on anything! |
