This reminds me of 'Trading Places'. It is a movie if you haven't seen it were a poor guy of the street is trained or convinced he is a gifted talent. And a trained talent is outed.

There is an underlying theme of Human plasticity. People when they believe something about themselves, really can do amazing things and become amazing people. It is important of course to have good people around you, to help set you mind on your positive potential. A good set of brains is always helpful too.

Reminds me when one of my friends came round. They said that the dragon (I have a kite dragon on my ceiling) protected humans from the creatures of their mind. As I had a crazy imagination I believed him and I would draw them then mock them with the dragon.

Once upon a time I was that mean person. My little sisters name is Paula Aliene and I convinced her that she was an alien, that mom and dad purposely misspelled it to fool people. She was 5 and I was 7. I have since forgiven myself(its been 50 yrs. ) but am not so sure she has!

I'm the bad person on this story. My sisters middle name is Aliene and I convinced her at age 4 that she was an alien. Mom and Dad found her outside in the garden under a pumpkin patch sort of scenario. For many years she sort of believed it.

In my atonement; Don't Kids say the dardest things!

    HARSH

My father-in-law had recently passed away, my 7yr. old son was taking it very hard for he had lost his Gamma last Spring. I said, "Kyle, you know that we are going to see grandpa and Gamma when we get to heaven" He cried his little heart out as he sobbed "thats easy for you to say, You're going a whole lot sooner!"

haha that's very cute in both scenarios :) Kids really don't have any filters in their brain, they just say whatever comes to mind in the least judgemental way I guess that's what is so cute about it.

If you had come to this belief independantly of it being suggested, you may suffer from the following delusion :

to answer your questions mwenabondan i did see the kid again and that was part of the reason why it was so hard to convince me i was alive!!! i had doubts about the fact that other people were alive due to this, i even thought the kid who told me the story was dead at one point. but i was never sad when i was dead , except when i was alone, because i new that i was a ghost because my mom and dad loved me and i had my friend sam with me so it wasnt like a horrible ordeal. i'm definitly glad to be alive

When I was in 1st and 2nd grade I thought I was a ghost. We were taught that all living people breathed air in through their nose. I didn't! I couldn't swim right either. Sometimes when I was around someone who I thought was suspicious,, I would force air through my nose(very loudly) to fool them into thinking I was alive......I also had very bad eyesight so everything around me was fuzzy. When I grew up I was diagnosed with a deviated septum, had surgery and am no longer a ghost!!

I'm glad you figured it out. As cute as your story is, I also feel so sad for the little you. Makes me wonder why in the world would you have to experience such a thing. Especially so young. And, I wonder how are you now, in relation to that experience; i.e., did it have any further effects on you? You're concept of ghosts? Were you ever able to hear from the little boy again? Cute & Curious!

Imagination, especially in children, is such a wonderful & important aspect of growing up. When my husband's kids, (6 of them), were growing up, he always made up stories for them. The famous one being "Mikey the Grasshopper". He had all kind of adventures until one day, he ran out of adventures. So, Mikey go run over by....no, not a lawn mower but by an airplane. He said the kids all started wailing, Mom was yelling that he was "corrupting the children" and Dad was, well, laughing. These kids are all adults, with kids of their own and have a wonderful imagination. Although I do suspect one or more may have had to go to Therapy over Mikey's death. lol It's great fun to listen to the reminiscing of all the things he used to do to entertain them. And, a person is never to old to have an imagination. I love making stuff up. I never pass it on a real, eventually, for my piece of mind so as to not pass false info on, I fess up.

You know, my cats still think there are people in the TV. They look for them occasionally. It's cute when they try to grab something on the screen.

the thing I remember as a child that I couldn't figure out was when we were riding in our family car and having the radio on was how they got those tiny little people inside that radio box to play music. It was 1964 and I believed for a long time that little tiny people were kept in radio boxes so they could play music. I wish I had that imagination today life would be so much more fun.

Probably because you looked up to this guy, believed all that he said, plus he "proved" to you, many times over. One of the fun things about being young is to look back on the dumb things we believed and trying to figure out how in the world we could have ever been so gullible. There's no harm in getting youngsters to believe harmless things, it helps with imagination. It's when we tell them harmful things, knowing they'll believe you, that is just wrong. He didn't remember, but you did, isn't it strange the things some people remember because they are significant to them and another doesn't?

Okay this is embarassing, but true....

When I was about 12 my Bro-In-Law told me he couldn't feel pain. He would always let me punch him as hard as I could in the stomach or his arms. I was a skinny little thing and obviously couldn't hurt him but he did it to entertain me. Time went on and by this time I was roughly 17 or 18. Him and my sister and I were all living together and he used to ride his bike to work even on the coldest days of Winter. One day after work he came in the door and fell to the floor in tears. He was shivering and holding his hands tight to his body. It was obvious that he was in extreme pain in his hands, presumably from the cold but this didn't add up to what I had always believed. Later on I said to him, 'How is this possible? You don't feel pain!' He looked at me very strangely, oblivious to what I was talking about. I told him what he had told me when I was 12 and as I said it I realized how ridiculous it was. Well we all got a good laugh but I'm still not sure how I went all those years (being bright in school) and not figuring out that what he told me was impossible!

I like that your friend wanted to be a ghost

At least found you had a good friend. It turned

Out to be a poignant story. I think it would make a nice movie :)

Cute story, now. Probably wasn't so cute when you were 5 however. It wasn't until the movie, "Monsters Under The Bed" came out that some kids thought that. I thought I was the only one. I don't remember anyone telling me that, but I guess they did. All I remember is that suddenly, for only a short time, did I think that they were under my bed. The light switch was about 40 or 50 feet from my bed, and since the monsters could reach out & grab your legs when the light went out, I could flip the switch down & be in my bed before the bulb was dark. I know I could because the monsters never grabbed me!. I must of gotten bored quickly as I don't remember it much.

When I was 4, there was an ad on the radio that said Keds sneakers had a "Magic Grip" to prevent falls. My brother convinced me to go up on the roof wearing my Keds. I remember looking down at my mother's terrified face 2 stories below. I leaned out over the edge and raised one foot, balancing on the other. "It's OK, Mommy", I said. "I'm wearing my Keds, I can't fall!" My brother got grounded for weeks, for that one.

My friend told me not to wash or touch my belly button or I would turn myself inside out! It got filthy before my mother forced me to tell her why I avoided it! I was terrified and screamed as she washed me, but when nothing bad happened, I figured out I was OK. 5-year-olds are pretty gullible, I guess. :)

The elder people should not tell such stories to the child. Your life is one of the examples.
