Big and Beautiful But Still Want to Lose Weight

I have struggled with my weight for years and years. Now at 43 years old, I have decided to finally do something about it once and for all. My doctor used the b-word recently and although I know people who have successfully lost weight this way, I don't think it is for me. So my plan is to do Weight Watchers and join a local gym. Any support would be greatly appreciated!

A woman's size does not determine her attractiveness. Beauty is made up of many elements, including intelligence, personality and personal grooming. I have seen many "skinny" women that just don't take care of themselves (hair & nails & clothes a mess) and just as many "larger" women that are absolutely stunning (gorgeous hair, nails & clothes). Those that consider a woman's size to be a determining factor of her worth are living a sad and shallow life.

Big women are not beautiful. Stop kidding yourself. Fat girls are bad role models and lousy wives.<br />

I started using Alli and working out about 6 months ago...I've lost 40 lbs so far...it's been wonderful. I highly recommend it. Nothing else has ever worked for me before. I still have quite a ways to go but for the first time in my life, I have hope.

I made the same decision and by eating a balanced diet and exercising I lost 40 lbs in 3 months and have maintained it for another 4 months. Over the next 6 months I will lose 40 more. You can do it.

I weighed myself this morning and I weigh 37st 8lbs. At my heaviest I weighed 43st 1lb. I have had my jaws wired up, I have tried most diets and now know that I have been wasting my time. I am type 2 diabetic using insulin. The only way for me to lose weight is by cutting out sugar, low fat, no salt and cutting out bread. Now I have lost 14st in the past in a year by going to various clubs but at night when the boredom gets you the eating plan goes out the window. The answer is this....eat small meals through the day, now these have to be healthy, no biscuits or cakes, crisps ect, eat healthy foods and change your lifestyle. Exercise is not a dirty word, for years I have avoided it, not now...I am 53 years old, I don`t want to die and be buried in a huge crate so please do change and save your own life. If the slimming groups work for you fair enough, but you will get bored then comes the hard bit, accepting the fact that you feed yourself and your size is your responsibility, it`s taken me years to accept this. I was told that it was puppy fat when I was a child, big boned......load of rubbish. One guy told me straight...you eat fat, you put on fat. What more can I say. I did listen all those years ago but I was was too stupid to listen, no fool like an old fool.....but this old fool has wakened up and hopefully not too late to change his life. I hope this helps.......and to all the people who laugh and shout bad comments, middle age spread comes to us all, I`m 53, still have all my hair, run two mobile disco`s and intend to become outrageous. Just remember to keep going to the gym regularly for 3 weeks. After wards, your body adjusts to the new routine, and you'll keep going back.<br />

The first 3 weeks are often the hardest. Especially for me. I considered it a trial to see if i had the will to push myself. I never gave up, and i kept at it for 2 years now. Needless to say that after that much time and dedication, the weight dropped. However, going to the gym can only do so much by itself. You have to combine it with a good diet plan, and stick to it through the rest of your life, if you want to keep that weight off. So just remember to keep working out, and try going for a diet that works for you, seeing as not everything works for everyone, and your body chemistry is different from others. Good luck. You have a long journey ahead.

I'm trying a new combo...Acai Berry diet supplement and I'm exercising every day and eating more veggies and fruits. The scale doesn't show a difference but my clothes fit better and I feel better. I'm going to check out the the butterfly plan , wonder what that's about...

May be it is not surprise, but every morning run 5-7 km with speed 10 km/hour at least. You will lose 1 kg per week or 1 kg per 10 days. I tested it myself.<br />

I understand you all when you share your experiences on loosing weight. I have had this problem for most of my life (I am 50 now). However I heard that the Gwen Shambles Godly diet works wonders. Does anyone have any idea what this involves? I heard that it is based on Bible verses and people eat literally any food and still manage to loose weight. Would love to hear more from anyone with experience in this type of dieting.

Good for you! It's so hard to lose weigt when life gets in the way but I know you can do it!

I ate lunch with a girl who had lab-band surgery 6 months ago. She ate a plate of salad, a plate of pasta, 3 pieces of pizza, a brownie, a piece of chocolate cake 2 regular Cokes and 3 pieces of bread. She paid $20,000 of her own money for that band and that was her last resort. What now? Pretty depressing.

I think WW is a smart choice. I feel WW teaches how to each everyday food. The gym will be great also, in fact, very necessary. Keeping up with the routine of going on a regular basis is the challenge. Maybe walking for 45 minutes each day will be a good start.<br />

Join the club! I am 44 and I am the most overweight I've ever been! I am 5'4" and weigh 175 pounds. When I stand or walk I get short of breath and my legs hurt. I have both GERD and sleep apnea, which are both related to weight. My best friend at church started Weight Watchers and I signed up too last Thursday. I feel better all ready. Hang in there. What's the "b-word?" If it's surgery I'd be scared too - I've heard tons of scary stories about it.

Keep thinking positive thoughts and imagine how you will look when you are 20, 30, 40, 50lbs. lighter. I am 41 years of age and have struggled with weight lost for years. I was in my early 30's when I first went over 200lbs. I still thought that I was a fox. The older I got the heavier I got. I started working out and I lost a lot of weight. I had a little girl at the age of 36 and plunged up to 275lbs. You can do it, I to have begun on the weight loss journey, I gained about 100lbs over 8 yrs ago, because of depression, and being heart broken. No one could help me not even meds. So now here I am ready, willing a able to fight for me. This is the first time in my 35 yrs, I've said that. I need to lose another 30 lbs yet but I have been slowly dieting for a while and have dropped 40 lbs....it is the exercise part I have trouble motivating myself to do...but I refuse to quit.<br />

I've personally had a lot of success with Jenny Craig - lost 45 pounds - then another 5-10 pounds after I left the program (I was originally about 200 lb). <br />

I recently have been going through a very stressful time (and gained back maybe 10 pounds) - studying for rather difficult certifications while under other pressures too - it's as if a pile of bricks have been laid upon me and are squashing me as studying (especially intensive studying) can limit the amount of free time you have for enjoying life - so I rejoined and after a few weeks I feel in control again. The reason is has worked for me is that is just seems to make transitioning and being on lower-portion meals easier. I did try Weight Watchers awhile ago but not the same success. I'm to join a gym this week too. Cost is a little bit expensive at first but the cost of Jenny Craig goes down over time and the offer here and there coupons that take a certain percentage off for a given number of weeks. <br />

I would like to lose weight as well. I'm 39 years old and am really disappointed at that fact that I have let myself go after the birth of my youngest daughter. The problem is that I am a stay-at-home mom in a rural community.. there are no gyms here and the local Curves place is not open the hours I would be able to go. Any one have any tips out there for going it without gym support? I think the closet gym is 90 minutes away...

Hi. Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth. I have been heavy since childhood and therefore have been on every diet known to mankind. Believe it or not, I think I found the answer!!!! I am not promoting any product but I found that by tracking what I eat, and I mean tracking carbs, sodium, fat, sugar etc, I finally learned why i wasn't losing weight. I would go on a 2000 calorie diet (i'm a 6'1 50 y.o. male) and still not lose. When I really started tracking the contents I was shocked. Now I feel like a nutritionist. I lost 60 lbs and cant believe what a difference it made. I have more to lose but I now know it can be done. And the beauty is, I eat whatever I want as long as I keep it in the limits I set for the day. And no it is not at all like the old counting calories that people hate so much. I would be happy to discuss it with anyone that is interested.

Weight Watchers is great, I've lost 44 pounds on it. It's a diet for life really, you'll never forget it.

No matter what you decide to use, how you decide to eat, what exercise you do, all of it comes together by you waking up daily and deciding to get in the habit, of keeping habits. <br />

hi its great to hear all our positive thoughts. I lost about 3 stone last year with lighter life and felt fantastic , I would have suffered with depression with low self esteem last year was fantastic. But unfortunately myaddiction to food rearedits ugly head. I have regained my weight that i had lost and started to become depressed and have noconfidence to go out . I am embarrassed of putting on the weight i lost .

I wish you all the success in the world. I am on a weight loss journey myself. I looked in the mirror last year at Christmas and I HATED the way I look. I usually only look at myself from the neck up and I am pleased with the way I look in that area, my face is a little more plump than I would like. However, I haven't had a full length mirror for some time now, but we happened to be at my husband's grandmother's house and I looked at my full body and was disgusted. So now I have started working out. I started to lose weight and then my dad died about a month ago and got me off track. I just went and paid for my gym membership today and will be back there tomorrow on my birthday taking my life back.

Weight loss has become such a psychological thing in this country. Go to many places outside the U.S. and losing weight is so simple. It's truly just a mindset. In one African country I visit frequently, eating is almost a thing one has to do, not fun. The way I was able to lose weight was to imagine everyone who looked at my fat self, was judging me harshly on the inside but never admitting it. Also, I thought of the fun things to eat as having salmonella, and assumed I would be deathly sick after eating whatever it was. On other occasions, I imagined myself a prisoner where the bad guys were enticing me with food to get me to talk. I never had such an easy time losing the weight I needed to lose--and of course, now I watch the Biggest Loser on TV and watch people who were in my situation develop MENTALLY from weak-minds to strong. So, I understand it's difficult at first, for at least a thousand reasons. But we can all do it. You just have to zone out from the rest of the population and make the goal personal, as if your life depended on it--which it does. Good luck.

My cousin who is extremely over weight was thinking about surgery. After her and I talked about it she decided to do Weight Watchers. She has now lost 30 lbs and her husband has lost 60 lbs. They have inspired me to lose weight as well. Please think about the surgery and other options. You can do it through a life change such as Weight Watchers. Diet is such a harsh word...there is the word die in it....which means to me that I could die for something that I can't have on a diet. So life change is what we need to do. Good luck and don't get discouraged.

I am trying to lose weight as well, its hard but It is possible. You can deffinatly do it.

good for you. I recently started working out about 2 mts ago, I have lost 13 lbs. Keep it up even when you feel you cant do it any more.

GREAT for you...no one should force you to get surgery. I am joining the gym at my job during lunch breaks. That way when I get home I get to spend time with my little one.
