Run (or Ride) and Say Goodbye For Good...

It's strangling me, keeping me down. I''m suffocating in this shoebox they call a dwelling, in this effed up wealthy suburb. This country is not "lucky", who the hell called Australia that? They mustn't have needed a motorised wheelchair to get around. Sure there are laws against discrimination here, if you have the money and unshakable patience to wait to get justice. I should know, I'm a well respected Leader in the disability community and I'm unemployed and virtually trapped in my own home. My care is substandard due to laws that protect the agency and it's office workers, the support workers and clients are treated like slaves and refuse. The transport system is bad, taxis are unbelievably pricey to use. The environmental infrastructure sucks with very few accessible public buildings and I couldn't get the help I needed to finish a full tertiary qualification.

I have seen a few counsellors, whose solution to my ills were simply "You have to get out more and make friends." Oh, duh...really?

I know America is far from perfect, but it is a lot better than here. I know, bad folk are everywhere, cities are dangerous, care won't be easy and so on...

I have friends, chosen family and a great love there. Wheelchair access rocks in major cities and so does tertiary education provision and assistance.

I'm outta here Australia, GOOD FREAKING RIDDANCE!
Most of the busses etc are wheelchair accessible

So very sorry that you are going!...I will miss you!

..(I am looking at buying a "gopher' soon as my legs are going on me!.....Am looking more closer at needs of the disabled!....Do you think put a HEALTH MINISTER in Your shoes for a day may help?

....Take care, my friend!

Wheelchair access is the law here, it should be good everywhere not just in big cities. No, it's not perfect here but we do have laws to at least try and make it a fair living environment for everyone. You'll make it back dear, I have faith. *hugs*

P.S. will your chosen family and friends and of course your dearest, be any help with the living and care situation? The care here is super expensive unless you can get into a state home which of course would be less than great.
