So Near , But So Far

The right to employment
The right to be protected from monopolies
The right to housing
The right to medical care
The right to education
The right to social security

All guaranteed , regardless of age , gender , creed or race none of which are today"

I found this quote online , it made me think. We are fortunate in America when compared to other countries.
But I looked at the pic of FDR that was posted under this quote ..I wondered if he was alive today what he would think. Would he see us as a success in fulfilling
those dreams and hopes for the nation . Or as a disappointment , a nation struggling against its own classist biased and greed . Politicians so divided they cannot work together in even the simplest of functions . A nation so weary hoping for family and loved to come back from a war that has grown senseless and stretches on and on .

Remember that many (but not all) of the people in positions of power in this country, both in government and private companies, are sociopaths/psychopaths.

Why do such people crave power in the first place? It is so they can make everyone else subservient to them, like slaves or thralls. This is what the sociopath wants-creating perfect victims.

And this country has a long history of creating legal systems that force people into subservience. Slavery, Jim-crow laws, poor (but legal) immigrants, now we've turned on drug addicts (who fill our for-profit prisons) and undocumented persons. Notice how it's always the victims of these systems that are punished and never the rich people who exploit them.

What would happen if people in this country didn't have to worry about going hungry, getting care when they're sick, being able to pay for school, or being homeless?

People wouldn't NEED to work at meaningless, dead-end jobs that made no impact on society, in order to enrich the stockholders at such companies. There would be far less crime. People could choose to work doing meaningful, useful things that they found satisfying. We would have a lot more people doing volunteer-type labor such as caring for the elderly or mentoring children, because they didn't have to worry about their basic needs. Companies would be forced to treat everyone who worked for them like human beings. They would be forced to pay people more than minimum wage for doing things that were boring or unpleasant. There would be no mandatory overtime because people would simply walk off the job.

In other words, people would be paid the true value of their labor. According to how necessary it really was. You couldn't get rich by running a payday loan company.

That is an idea that is terrifying for sociopaths who crave power and control.

Yes the rich have the money to be corrupt and unlawful and never be touched .. its sad and disheartening to say the least =-/

I think about this stuff a lot. You know, the first article in the Basic Law of the Republic of Germany is

"Die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar. Die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar. Sie zu achten und zu schützen ist Verpflichtung aller staatlichen Gewalt."

This Means

"Human dignity shall be inviolable. To respect and protect it shall be the first duty of all state authority."

I wish the US constitution had such clear and potent language.

I think that you really hit on some great points. Politicians getting by miss-quoting James Madison, using his ideas from the Federalist Papers, which he admitted where a failure. He used the lessons he learned to write the Constitution. These idiots are touting his mistakes and as answers for complex problems, missing the truth and leading so many into a false sense of reality that is more than dangerous. Our government, now more than ever, needs rational politicians who are not afraid to make hard choices.

I am not a doom and gloomer, but I am worried about where we are going as a nation.

I do know we have the best medicine in the World, if you can afford it. There are no easy answers to the health question, but decisions are needed yesterday.

Not to mention all the men and women who died on both sides of so much unnecessary military action that made the World, not safer, but more dangerous.

We can't lose our faith in humanity, but it sure is being tested right now.

that is the key keeping your faith and hope in our ability to recharge , to get back to where we should be as a nation and as a people .. but you are 100% right everyday it gets a little harder

Unfortunately, there are too many in this country that do not believe in such rights....

Hopefully.... not a majority.

yes hopefully not thank you for the comment run
